The graphics are so charming
>>
>>3888584
They are.
>>
Agreed. Good thread chaps let's do it again same time next week.
>>
I have always liked how every town had its own palette on the Super Gameboy.
It felt cool to see the palette change as you first enter.
Are there any other games that do that?
>>
>>3888584
Why does Survival Kids seem to share so much graphically with r/b/g?
>>
>>3888861
Like what in particular? Not saying I disagree, I just think it's interesting you singled out those two games when I feel like you could have made the case with many others

How exactly did the super gameboy cartridge get color into the game again? The code has to be saved somewhere
>>
>>3888584

It always bothered me even as a kid that you could not walk behind the buildings but the roof which would not touch the ground magically preventing you.
>>
>>3888927

Games were designed with the Super Game Boy in mind.

I think the SGB could only colorize up four areas of the screen at once, and these areas could not move around.
>>
>>3888927
The developers explicitly programmed extended SGB functionality directly into the games.

If you like the GB RPGs aesthethic try the Medarot games.
Maximum comfyness even on the amazing looking GBC games.

>>3888846
The SGB compatible Medarot also give a palette to every town like Pokémon.
>>
>>3888907
Text, map sprites, that sort of thing. Only singled out because I don't play a ton of GB games and when I started Survival Kids 2 I was struck by how much it reminded me of the original pokemon.
It almost looks like you could walk from Pallet Town right onto the beach you start on in SK2, the similar textboxes help that feel even more.

It took me years to realize that wasn't a graphical glitch

>Think it's a glitch

Picked a good image for yourself there
>>
>>3888584
Even comfier in the night
>>
>>3888584
The color palette here is so comfy.

>>3888846
I loved that too! Cerulean City was maximum comf with that bluish hue.

>>3890991
Be nice, not everyone knows that "cerulean" and "viridian" are colors. Some people see the vivid spectrum of life, while others see everything in crayola palettes. Life is a rainbow and I'm the treasure at the end of it.
>>
>>3891005
The song used to always scare me as a kid, if I ever went to the town, it'd be a quick run the fuck through type of thing.
>>
I always feel fucking disgusted after a trip responds to me.. Why don't they just fuck off?

I take it you were never a child, and also you never missed something obvious at any point ever.
>>

The M on Mario's hat stands for Mario!
>>
As a kid I always imagined Jessie & James were in a radio studio playing these songs to Ash to mess with him
>>
>>3890991
>that feel when Pokemon taught you those colors

I managed to put two and two together between Pallet Town and Indigo Plateau.

>this was the only connection I could think of when hearing "Pallet" for years
yikes
>>
>>3891053
There is a slight difference between M = Mario, and uncommon colors.

Go ask a 5-10 year old what the word cerulean, or fuchsia means.

If you don't tell them they are colors, they will most likely not know what they are, and if you tell them they are colors and ask them to describe the colors, they will probably still answer incorrectly.
>>
>>3891503
Even as a 10 year old I knew that cerulean meant blue and fuchsia was a dark pink. I learned the latter from MS Paint
>>
>>3891418

Same. Would it have killed them to spell it right?
>>

>JP exclusive
Sad!
>>
>>3888846
that happens on the gameboy colour as well
>>
>>3892057
only on pokemon yellow.
>>
>>3892079
you sure? I specifically remember this happening to my copy of Pokemon Blue, I never owned Yellow or a Super Gameboy.

Perhaps it happened on Gameboy Advance?
>>
>>3891517
Cerulean and Vermillion i had never heard of as colors before playing Pokemon

yep here is pokemon blues pallete. Although maybe you remember changing the pallete at the nintendo logo screen.
>>

shame, Im probably remembering my friends yellow version. Or just making it up.
>>
>>3888584
>Pallet "Town"
>it's two houses, a lab, and a homeless girl and fat guy
>>
>>3892079
And only on the American release.
>>
>>3892097
Technology is amazing!
>>
>>3891517
>>3892085
I think I learned these colors in the first place from playing pokemon. Enough of the colors were obvious ("Indigo Plateau") that I knew the towns were supposed to represent the colors in their names. I had a guidebook/pokedex so even though I didn't see the SGB palettes in my actual game, I could see the SGB-derived screenshots with the appropriate colors in the book.
But as a testament to my prior ignorance of those colors, a lot of what I "learned" about them is completely wrong. For years I associated "vermilion" with the pale yellow color of Vermilion City, even though it usually describes a much redder shade. I also associated Saffron with gray even though it's quite a bright yellow.
>>
>>3891005

Sorry if this is dumb but isn't the game black and white? Where does the color come from?
>>
>>3893009
that's Gold/Silver/Crystal during nighttime
>>
Eh, RBG was made by a team of complete ameteurs, and it shows. The game is pretty ugly.

However the sprite for golbat in the US RB is honest to god one of my favorite sprites in any game ever made. The fact they removed those little eyes and the giant, slimy tongue is a shame.
>>
>>3888861
It's funny to see that most people think of Pokemon when you show them some footage from games like Earthbound, Link's Awakening or that game you mentioned. Sure you can't expect them to know every game ever made but it often sounds ridiculous.
>>
>>3891023
Just use the filter. You can ignore tripfaggots a lot easier with that.
>>
>>3893009
Been awhile but it's either the game being played on a Super Game Boy a Game Boy Color. I never had the latter and can't remember what colors the former put out.
>>
>>3893684
on a Super Game Boy OR a Game Boy Color
>>
>>3893684
>>3893685
No, it's neither. RBY didn't have day and night times. That's Gen 2.
I'm shocked by how many people seem confused by this. Maybe some people on /vr/ are literally too old to have played pokemon gen 2? I have trouble believing that anyone here would be too young, but that might be the sad truth.
