Pretty much every Wizardry game aside from the first since that one kickstarted the genre.

In my opinion this is not enough to make the game special. You wouldn't play Mega Man 4 just because it had this feature, you would probably play it because you like Mega Man but not for the upgraded buster alone.

1 was entirely new and 2 solidified the formula and had a lot of new level design. 4's level design was 95% remixes from previous entries. With every additional Mega Man game the formula gets more stale and 4 had especially a real lack of fresh content.

Probably a bad choice of game to start the thread with, OP. It's a 2D platformer where you can't die and you solve puzzles by letting enemies hit you which gives you 'power ups'. Regardless of if you like the game or not, I'm pretty sure that qualifies as something special. In fact, there's no other game (besides the sequel) that I can think of that's like this.

Magical Pop'n. It's just a weeb platforming game that makes the weebs go "oh my god so KAWAI!!" but it's still got some fun gameplay and can be a little challenging.

The sequels are much better though and obviously we can only speak in retrospect. If we look at this game now it is perfectly playable and somewhat fun but not a must play in any way.

3 got bogged down by locking away your abilities and 4 had shite puzzles and focused too much on GOTTA GO FAST.

2 is already miserable for locking you out of levels forcing you to go trough the entire game if you missed some collectibles. The shitty minigames are braindead too. I hate how they force you to play this shitty minigame at the end of every level that gives you one collectible. The level design is the blandest of all 4 wario land games.

By that logic, Mario World is shit for having stages with multiple exits.

Also, you don't have to go through the entire game again, once you get one ending there's a level select that opens up.

I always liked the Legaia series, even though they were just a standard jrpg. The combat system was a little unique but otherwise it was just a solid but nothing special game.
