I loved that shitty facebook version of tetris battle...

But I still play the NES version

Puyu Puyu Tetris desu. Moving the tetronimos never felt so good.

To keep it retro, I'll just say I really like Tetris for the CD-I. Gameplay is pretty mediocre for a tetris game, but the soundtrack and aesthetics are god-tier.

>>3877039
When you say NES do you mean licensed or Tengen?
>>
>>3877112
>Puyu Puyu Tetris
damn that does look good. I mean obviously i like tetris attack, but for the basic version of tetris, I am actually enjoying Tetris Plus for PS1. Its not a good game by any means, but the learning curve is steep because classic mode gets fast, FAST. So, it is good for practice. Still, I wonder what would be more enjoyable. Perhaps the original Gameboy version? But I'm curious on later improvements.

TGM but that's just because I'm a masochist

although the games are crazy fun

This one.

The technical answer is anything that follows the Tetris Guideline. Which all games have to adhere to in order to be official.

http://tetris.wikia.com/wiki/Tetris_Guideline

But that only governs any games from 2001 onwards, which is not /vr/. And it practically killed the TGM series.

IMO, the best classic Tetris is the Tetris DX for the GBC but the best that still fits within /vr/'s time period is the original TGM in 1999.
>>
Played the original Gameboy version, the Spectrum Holobyte PC version, a dozen gimmicky PC clones, but Tetris DX for GBC was the best.

TGM, TGM 2, TGM 3

Everything else is casual trash

>Not casual trash

>>3877658
A necessary feature along with 3 piece preview due to the massive increase of speed in comparison to TGM2. It makes TGM3 a far more challenging experience.
>>
Not retro but Tetris psp
>>
>>3877368
Tetris DX has worse tunes than the Gameboy version, although Korobeiniki is in its code and can be unlocked with a romhack
>>
>>3877247
Seconded, such a fantastic version and I'm not even that into Tetris.

Graham Cluley's DOS one.

Not the same anon but
I'd like to see you clear TGM 3 even if you had double the hold space. Don't talk shit, that game isn't casual trash

The classic Tetris formula is just way too overdone. I can no longer sustain any interest in playing classic Tetris for hours on end. IMO, BPS had the right idea when they took Nintendo's IP and ran off with it. The company churned out one innovative Tetris variant after another, each a radical departure from the series' established formula.

Tetris Flash (Tetris 2 overseas) had nothing to do with clearing lines. You had to match three or more same-colored pieces to remove them from the screen, eventually making your way down to the flashing pieces that caused all pieces of that color to phase out simultaneously. The GB port of this game had an additional puzzle mode that involved placing a finite number of pieces in the exact order required to clear the screen. (i.e. it was similar to Panel de Pon's puzzle mode)

Bombliss was sort of like classic Tetris, but with explosive pieces that detonated whenever a full line was formed. Forming lines didn't actually clear any blocks like in classic Tetris, though. Clearing the screen had to be done as a result of explosive chain reactions.

Then BPS came out with Super Tetris 3, which was a handful of different variants rolled into one game. For instance, there was a "Sparkliss" mode that was similar to Bombliss, except you had to clear blocks by creating electrical currents.

other versions might add features or do certain things better, but the NES version is the one I always come home to. If I was on a deserted island and could only bring one version to play for the rest of my days it would be the NES version,

This, though I'd recommend getting Texmaster as the best way to play them on PC.

Gameboy (1989). Pajintov himself admitted this was the closest to what he intended the game to be.

Tetris DX used to be my favourite until I discovered the bug where you can make tetrominos "climb" up the walls by just rotating them.
>>

No. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMeb8AuFNsU

>>3877957
Shitposting aside, I know it's not casual trash, but it simplifies stacking so much compared to TGM 1 and 2 that it makes for a much less interesting challenge imo. TGM 3 is only so much harder than 2 because of the invisible grades and the account system. The main game is actually more lenient than TGM 2 in terms of scoring requirements on top of it being easier to stack well. To me, that's just poor design.

Shirase is a whole other story though, because, unlike Master, the speed requirements are extremely tight and it doesn't rely on gimmicks to make the game harder.

Tengen Tetris is great for 2-player, but the Nintendo Version is the greatest of all time for one payer standard tetris.

You can almost smell the Borscht, vodka and the despair when you play it.

Imagine the tetrominoes were loaves of bread coming down at you that you'd queued weeks for.
>>
>>3877658
Honestly, I usually think hold features are a cop out in tetris games so I got used to not using them. Then when I don't use hold at all in TGM3 I get my shit wrecked.

Autism tier is best tier, anon. You should know that by now.

muh nigga. This is the definitive version of Puyo and Tetris. As a long time Puyo and Tetris this is just the best version of both.
