Just general Half-Life thread, discuss the best Half-Life mods, games, and more.
Any mods that improve the vanilla game?

Opposing Force>Half Life>Blue Shift.
Btw how the fuck can i find where are the saves stored in the non steam version? I accidentaly deleted the game and somehow the saves are scattered all around the PC since i put my backups were the saves were and i still lost a huge chunk of my advance.
Had to finish it on PS 2.

I'm not sure, but I got the non-steam version too. I'm just hoping that nothing happens to my saves.

Opposing Force was the worst one for me. Replayed it recently and the level design kind of sucks especially the voltigore tunnels section and it ends pretty abruptly. Blue Shift was a glorified map pack but the level design was better at the very least.
I finished playing this game on PC, so I decided to play it on dreamcast. I also started playig Blue Shift, so far its a great game.

Mods can do a bunch of things, from making graphical or content additions to the original game (which mustards refer to as the "vanilla version"), or make an entirely new game based on the original. I haven't played any half life mods since I was like 15 but I remember playing a mod called afraid of monsters that scared the living shit out of me, it was one of the scariest games I ever played at the time

Did anyone else played that Russian mod were you raid some facility?

i recently replayed half life + expansions and I'd say the worst would be the counter strike singleplayer campaign aside from a few interesting parts it ultimately played like that call of duty parody they did for bulletstorm
OF was pretty great for me because i liked the marine sections of HL1 also the new weapons & enemies were fun but i will say the pit worm was the weakest part for me
blue shift was alot better than i remember but escorting dr. rosenberg was probably the worst escort mission I've ever played
i played the unofficial PC port of decay and it's interesting but you really need 2 players for it

Afraid of Monsters is undoubtedly the scariest game I have ever played. I loved They Hunger, too - though it was less scary and more atmospheric, haunting, beautiful.
I also finally found the music for the radio in-game. I don't know where it's from, but it's from roughly 0:22 - 1:31 in this video:

Sometimes I go to youtuberepeat and set it to play those sections for some somber ambience.

Jesus, cheers for the link anon.I'm running a D&D campaign that music will make perfect ambiance for.

I played a mod from Steam I think called 'Half-Life (SM)' because it had subtitles (and 1920x1080), useful because I don't hear the speech very well - even though HL isn't necessarily driven by dialogue.

that radio made me post this

Do the steam versions have the "high definition" pack installed?
>>3886080
Yes, but you can toggle it in the options menu.

Thanks
Am I the only one who found this game to be a little cold, emotionless, and boring?
>>3886210
i guess it would feel that way if you expect cut scenes or a deeper story
Which single player mods are fun? I've only played those made by Neil Manke - They Hunger, and USS Darkstar

Did anyone else play Call of Cthulhu? One guy made it himself for two years. I E-mailed him recently and told him how much I liked it, and he got back to me.

You mean PARANOIA? That had a dope soundtrack.

No problem. It's perfect for cold winter nights with a lamp on and a paper book to read.
>>3886232
half-life does have a few cutscenes. Part of the problem is they are unskippable and not really interesting.

Point of View is cool

>You mean PARANOIA? That had a dope soundtrack.
Yep that one.

Didn't they remove that in the SteamPipe update?
