Unpopular /vr/ Opinions Thread

These threads are dumb. It's just everyone trying to troll each other, but it doesn't work because it's the one and only thread on /vr/ where everyone realizes that's what's going on.

JRPGs aren't really RPGs and aren't worth playing.
American games are largely awful.
European games are the best and have the best art/music.
Home computers are better than consoles.

So what do you think has better sprite animation? I don't particularly think the Metal Slug games are the most amazingly animated sprite based games ever, but I can't really think of anything off the top of my head that is better.

Here's a completely honest one:

I think Spyro, Crash, Rayman, and most other cutesy platformers are absolute trash and I look down on adults who still recommend them to others.

European games always have this awkward affect to them, like an alien was trying to mimic normal artistic conventions and got it like 95% right.

e.g. Rayman

Megaman was basically shovelware in its time. Laziest design ever (both aesthetic and gameplay), and they did it a million times over with little alteration to the game. People like them because they played them growing up, just like most people are only religious because they've been exposed to it since birth. Because of this, they're conditioned to the quirks and trial-and-error aspects of the games, and so when they replay them, it gives them a gratifying feeling of smooth gameplay when in fact they're the clunkiest action-platformers in existence.

True. I only collect ps1 and ps2 rpgs.

I like Dungeon Keeper 2 significantly more than the first dungeon keeper.

I like the art style of the SNES megaman games a lot better than the NES ones. MM7 didn't need a demake. The others could have used a graphically enhanced remake like Mario All stars or a better version of the Wily Wars.

I've seriously been considering raising the issue on here and /qa/ again. There seems to be moderate support for it and the release of the Switch seems like a good point to allow it in, kinda like the 8th gen was for the DC.

Agreed. 3rd Strike has too much of that footsie-poking shit. Being able to parry EVERYTHING was a mistake. Underwhelming/forgettable cast.

Most high-level tourneyfags praise 3rd Strike as the pinnacle of balanced, technical fighting games. SFA3 is 'broken and unbalanced' according to them.

Sonic 1 and 2 are shit. Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles are barely worthwhile.

SMB2 and 3 are better than you think.

After you solve all the puzzles, you have no reason to revisit Zelda 1 or LttP. But you can create meta-challenges, like speedruns, or play randomizers.

Zelda 2 is the NES Dark Souls.

Mega Man games are worth playing only once.

JRPGs get a free pass for being heinously unfun.

Chrono Trigger is a visual novel.

Streets of Rage 2 and 3 are just shy of perfection.

The Adventures of Batman and Robin (1994, Genesis) is the hidden sequel to Contra - Hard Corps.

Thief - The Dark Project is a beta test.

The original cRPGs planted the seeds for SJWs.

F-Zero is fucking brilliant.

Super Mario World is all style, no substance.

King of Fighters XIII, Breath of Fire IV, Valkyrie Profile, Fallen Angels, Seiken Denketsu 3, and Legend of Oasis just to name a few.

Metal Slug's best attribute is its fantastic visual design for the machines. The animation for them, however, is nothing particularly amazing - though it's still very good.
