defend this
>>3876532
Why?
>>3876532
The AM2 ports and improved video quality for Genesis games makes it worth owning.
>>3876532
If there had been no imminent Saturn, this would have been a decent piece of hardware.
But they sold it wrong. It should have been an all-in-one with Sega CD like the Turbo Duo.
Anyway, came a year too late even with the Saturn on the horizon.
>>3876551
>But they sold it wrong. It should have been an all-in-one with Sega CD like the Turbo Duo.
Or, it should've been put on the backburner for a few years and then turned into a handheld gaming system.
>>3876532
it Was supposed to be lile the fx chip but you it once instead of each game
you can make an official Genesis threesome
>>3876532
Who doesn't like good cheap fun? The games are pretty smooth and enjoyable. It is a bit sad I will not see its full potential in a fun game since it got discontinued so fast, but I actually like it. I recently heard that a Castlevania game was considered for the platform before it became Symphony of the Night, which I would have loved as Bloodlines was pretty fun.
Had it released a couple years earlier and built up a library of games it probably would've been the greatest console ever made for 2D gaming.
Instead it was released at the exact same time as all the 3D consoles and had to compete with them on that playfield (against their own Saturn release the same fucking week no less) and ended up being DOA.
>>3877725
>Shadow Squadron
That game alone made the console worth it. One of the few playable console space combat simulators, multiple ships and modes and they're all fun.
>>3876603
More like gangrape
I liked it.
>>3876535
fpbp
What is a reasonable price for one of these?
>>3878057
40 usd
>>3876532
If you threw that thing at a guy and hit his head straight on, you could probably do some serious damage.
>>3878204
Doubt I'll ever find one in the wild around here.
Considering getting one off of ebay, but didn't know if that was too outrageous.
Your $40 seems about right.
>>3876532
Could the "low budget Saturn" strategy actually have worked if they'd kept supporting it?
defend what? Cheap, fixes video problems on "bad" genesis models. $50 legit everdrive plays all the games. can s-video mod without modifying the base console. If you have a genesis you should be defending not owning one.
>>3876532
It greatly improves the video output of the console, even stock genesis games.
Star Wars Arcade was kick ass.
>>3876532
Imagine if Nintendo had released the FX chip like this. What would a used console go for?
>>3876532
Was there a single game worth getting for the 32X? Sega CD had some cool games like snatcher and sonic CD, but I can't think of a single notable game for 32X.
>>3878330
Star Wars Arcade
Virtua Fighter is a great little port
Virtua Racing Deluxe ain't bad either
Kolibri
Tempo
better version of MK2
Doom ain't half bad other than the music
>>3876532
Virtua Racing 32x is the best home port of the game.
>>3878364
best version of NBA Jam TE too.
Probably the only basketball game I've ever liked.
>>3878227
If it was a standalone console maybe.
>>3878395
Irregardless, I'd rather play it on 32X than SNES or 3DO, which are much worse than the 32X version.
>>3878451
3DO has some kickass music.
>>3876532
Sorry i cant
>>3878451
>Irregardless
>>3878746
People have fucked this up for so long they put it in the dictionary
>>3878757
>having the sheer audacity to call that abomination a dictionary let alone THE dictionary
Shameful, even for 4chan
>>3878757
It's what happens when people try to mash irrespective and regardless together.
>>3876532
I can't.
It's actually bad life support.
It's pretty much what the Sega Genesis base console should have been. Could have had massive games. I love the Genesis, but imagine how cool it would have been if it were as powerful as the 32x makes it.
>>3878792
Except that the SH-2 didn't exist in 1988.
>>3876532
doom.
>poor a.f in the 90s
>uncle had doom on his PC. Played it. Changed things in me. Must play more. Too poor.
>friend gets 32x. doesn't like it
>Doom comes out for it. He doesnt care tho.
>Opprotunity knocks.
>Buy 32x off him for $20 bucks and a few games.
>Buy Doom.
>Go home. Close door. Turn on. Turn up speakers.
>Shit music. Dont care. Shit framerate. Don't give a fuck. My genesis plays doom. Your genesis plays Dr. Robotniks Mean Bean Machine.
Ill admit there wasnt much of anything else, and it was a shitty port but sweet merciful fuck if I didn't have a fantastic summer full of Doom, Surge, Metallica and skateboarding.
>>3878204
My local shop is selling one for 50 with hookup cables
No. I love the Genesis, I think it is the best console but all the add-on's just killed it for SEGA once the Saturn came around. Not giving enough support to both the CD and the 32X can easily make people wary of where the hardware will be going.
>>3876532
Virtua Fighter, Virtua Racing, and Doom were nice to play for poorfags who couldn't afford a better console.
t. poorfag who got a 32X for Christmas 1996 and chucked it when I got a PS1 for Christmas 1997
>>3878792
That's stupid.
You're stupid.
You might as well be saying they should've made the Playstation 4 instead of the Playstation 1.
>>3878792
>It's pretty much what the Sega Genesis base console should have been
to achieve 32X power in a 1988 console you'd basically have to make it an arcade machine
>>3876532
This game right here. Best spidey game ever.
>>3878792
>It's pretty much what the Sega Genesis base console should have been.
In 1988 that would cost an arm and a leg.
The only problem with the Genesis hardware was the palette, it should've been 128/4096 (12-bit) or at least 256/512 (9-bit) colors, both were doable at the time.
I'd even trade the shadow/highlight effect or the Master System compatibility for this.
>>3878204
What the fuck
On eBay UK they're like at least £100
>>3877892
At the most it's a spitroast.
>>3882772
Right console, wrong bonus slot
>>3882812
The sega cd/32 x games had potential.
The whole machine was actually powerful like the multicore principle for graphic procesing.
>>3882812
I dont know man, web of fire is at least 5x more expensive
>>3878757
Loosen and unloosen also mean the same thing
It was better than the FX chip.
I'd defend 32x with:
Mortal kombat 2
Star wars arcade
Machine head
Shadow Squadron is the best 32X game followed by Blackthorne.
Prove me wrong.
>>3878326
What is a loose copy of Stunt Race FX going for right now?
There's your answer.
>>3878775
How to anger limeys: point out how many words in the Oxford dictionary list the spelling common in America as preferred over the spelling common in Britain.
Had a good Mortal Kombat 2 port
Had arguably the best homeport of Virtua Racer at the time as well as Virtua Fighter
Star Wars arcade was pretty good
Knuckles Chaotix is interesting
Aside from music and missing levels, it had a pretty good port of Doom that runs better than the Saturn version
The 32X was pretty alright all things considered, sure I will admit it was a bad idea to release such a thing when the next console is just coming out, but it did have a pretty nice library of games
>>3883706
Kolibri
>>3883659
Star Wars Arcade Game
NBA JAM TE
Mortal Kombat II
Kolibri
You're wrong.
>>3882793
The genesis could do a 128 colour palette using external memory, but they left it off the board because lol cost.
It also had an option for 128kb VRAM, which would've made uploading tiles twice as fast as they were connected interleaved. That alone would've made all 3d games, all Sega CD scaling games, all FMV games, and Virtua Racing, run at up to twice speed.
Both are still there on the VDP and you can connect them up if you want to, but no games were written for it, so its useless. They should've made a memory expansion cartridge available - or hook them up in the Genesis 2.
Also, the designer of the Megadrive mentioned that they put hardware scaling in the VDP, but it made the chip too big and expensive to produce, so they had to remove it.
>>3877731
one day I'll find a copy of the Saturn remake/sequel that isn't $150 or more...
>>3876532
Part of Sega's downfall was to waste money on this thing. Like why even create this thing? The Saturn was already released in Japan.
At least the Sega CD had some potential if developers had used it for more than just FMV in games.
>>3882803
>eBay UK
Says it all anon, sold even less here than the US so I'm not really surprised, plus resellers and scalping is really bad as well
>>3878364
Don't forget Knuckles Chaotix
>>3884515
Knuckles Chaotix is best left forgotten.
Is there any 32X emulator for the Wii yet?
I just got a 32X yesterday. Loving the Doom port so far. The music is terrible though.
Right now I'm looking at getting Knuckles Chaotix for sure, Space Harrier, Virtua Racing, Virtua Fighter, Blackthorne, Metal Head, and After Burner. Any other recommendations?
