Is the famicom disk system the most underrated add-on of all time?
FDS was mainly just a way to work around rental laws in Japan. Almost all the good games were ported to Famicom just naturally because Nintendo was able to closely track what was getting dispensed at the kiosks.
Sega CD is the add-on that gets consistently dissed despite having a very strong if limited library of exclusives of course /vr/ seems to have come to embrace it.
"Underrated" on 4chan is very different than underrated on youtube.

why would it be underrated
wasn't it made pretty much obsolete by new innovations in cartridge space a year or two after it came out
>>3873193
nah i think all the super dedicated ninty fans have this

The best Sega CD games are the ones that could have easily been made for Genesis but with the advantage of CD-quality audio.
Unfortunately it's always the crappy FMV games that seem to be associated with the Sega CD because at the time they were the ones that got the most attention for appearing to be such a big leap forward in technology. Sad really.

Anon, I've been rewriting famicom disks since before FDSStick was even a thing. Do you even own one? Pic is old anyways, has since been replaced with a twin

Eh, I would say that overall the disk system had more note worthy games than the Sega CD. Not to mention, almost all CD games have aged very poorly

UNDERrated? I don't understand Nintendo's reason for creating such an add-on in the first place. Maybe floppy disks were cheaper to produce, but they introduced unnecessary load times, had little in the way of longevity and were prone to data corruption. And who wanted that bulky thing attached to their Famicom anyway?
>b-but extra audio channels!
So what? It was still a completely unneeded "upgrade."

I can think of only three noteworthy FDS exclusives, Ai Senshi Nicol, Almana no Kiseki, and Nazo no Murasame Jou. Sega CD is more or less the same the Sega CD just gets kicked around a lot more because of the still lingering image from its US advertising while FDS has an image of obscule honorabur nippon console.
Really they compare pretty evenly. If you like Genesis style games you'll probably prefer Sega CD while if you prefer NES type games you'll probably prefer FDS. There are more FDS titles to collect but SCD games are easier to write yourself. Also both are notoriously mechanically unreliable.

I don't think Silpheed, Sonic CD, Soul Star, or Stellarfire could run on vanilla Genesis. Even if you strip the audio.

It's got an underrated sound. Can I call it a soundchip? I mean, it's still the same soundchip, but FDS adds a wavetable, so it's not a completly new chip, right?
Anyway, it's got the one thing that the GB lacked to elevate the chip to actual greatness: a dedicated bass line. The wavetable with an actual bass is amazing.

The best SegaCD games also have cool pixel art cutscenes.

>one
No. I own a few. Only one CIB. Does that count? If you've been using them that long you know they were very popular and not underrated.

Super Mario 2 (Lost Levels) is my favorite NES game of all time. Electrician is also pretty damn good.

>Electrician
Never in my life had I seen that game and it looks pretty neat too.

Sonic CD could, but the special stages and obviously the music would take an unavoidable hit in quality. Would be doable otherwise though.
