Which was better?
>>
2097 had great tracks, but too few of them. Also the lack of analog stick sucks so I prefer Wip3out
>>
>>3872134
I'd say 3 in about every way except the tracks and difficulty curve. The tracks are still good but kind of samey, and the difficulty of them is all over the place. Terminal is simply leagues behind Spilskinanke in terms of design, aesthetics, and difficulty. Meanwhile the hardest track in the game is the 6th one.
However the physics were never better, the music just as good, and ships didn't function simply as a "select your difficulty" kind of thing, each one having a playstyle beyond "controls worse and goes faster than the last"
They are both GOAT though.
>>
>>3872161
2097 supports analog steering on PS1 and PC, just not a Dualshock.
>>
>>3872134

3 was the best. Both were good but 3 had so much more content & variety. 2097 had better music.
>>
>>3872382
So it supports the dual analog controller?
>>
>>3872471
I didn't feel like deleting the post but I forgot to mention Dual Analog. That controller and Dualshock are basically one and the same regarding how it's recognized. What does work with 2097 is NeGcon, whether you have a real Namco one, a controller that uses NeGcon mode (Madcatz wheels), or an emulator that can emulate the NeGcon mode. 2097 on PC uses DirectInput (including axes), keyboard, and mouse.

>>3872484
Thank you for the advise. I did not know that, it worked great using an madcatz mc2

bet they also think Ridge Racer 64 is the best in the series. You almost have to pity them

> psx covers are atemporal aesthetic masterpieces
> 64 cover is broad mid-nineties lowest common denominator tripe

Really sets the old brain cogs a-working
>>
>>3873371
Yeah, well F-Zero X!
>>
>>3873302
>>3873320
I liked 64 alot to, the control and sense of speed was bang on I grinded it for good times a ton last year.

>>3872134
>Which was better?

Hmm it's a close call, 3 edges it for me I like the manual booster to add a layer of depth when i'm routing phantom time trial runs and the aesthetic is just timeless that said xl/2097 has the greatest track of all time gareduropa (better than the 3 s.e version) and the dark intense atmosphere is something else. I love both, 64 immensely with the 1sts ost being my fav of all time.
>>
>>3874189
>that said xl/2097 has the greatest track of all time gareduropa
But Manor Top is the greatest track of all time
d europa ties for 2nd with spilskinanke

MEANWHILE IN AMERICA.

This one's inexcusable given how cool the PAL cover is.

Manor top is a good circuit and one of the more memorable ones from 3 and top-notch aesthetically. However the track itself doesn't come close to Spilskinanke, Odessa Keys, Korodera or Gare d'Europa. In fact most of the tracks in 3 are kind of middle of the road with the exception of the prototypes (some of which should have been main tracks in the game).

>>3874093
At least the PAL version of Wipeout 64 looks better than the NTSC release.
>>
FEISAR a BEST

2097, hands down.

FEISAR a shit. Qirex a best.
>>
>>3873371
Pod racer beats any game in terms of speed, content, customization, and track design
>>
>>3874520
manor tops great to sure, lacks the fluidity of gare imo though..

btw how many have tried ballisticng on steam? It's an AMAZING wipeout homage that feels just like xl/3/64 and is free, can't recommend highly enough.

>>3876081
If you plan on ever getting decent times then they both suck, icarus best.
>>
>>3874093
>the designers republic vs a midway intern

It's not really a fair fight
>>
>>3876631
Piranha in 2097 > Icaros

Although I think I can get better times with Qirex than Piranha on some tracks in 2097 because you can boost over certain parts of the track if you angle yourself correctly.
>>
>>3872350
Agree with this post. I love the overall aesthetics and physics of 3, plus it has my favorite ships in the series. I understand why hardcore time trialers prefer 2097 though, and I admit that when it's on point, it's really damn good. Qirex in 2097 for example is my favorite handling of any Wipeout game. So, I guess you could say that 2097 has higher peaks, but only a couple of them, whereas I love 3 almost across the board.
>>
Icaras are the best just fyi
>>
>>3876841
i'm talking 3 though where icarus dominates, ag-5s pretty sweet to though.
>>
3-Special Edition is best.

Ignore the people that say it's bad cause of something something physics. They're just mad it didn't get release in their country.

All you need to know is that it has tracks from Wipeout 1 and 2097 but in high-res.
>>
>>3876395
Not really.

Mate i own both/loveboth (and rare jap version) and have more than competent times in all versions to, your assumption is bogus as fuck though firstly the S.E physics suck because the game runs slower has less frames and lets you leave the track so fast times come from massive stupid skips on many tracks, the weight of the craft is gone to... the original 3 is superior. Onto the extra tracks yes it's great but they aren't even as good as the originals, compare gareduropa in xl and s.e, the former has bags more atmosphere, more speed, rain/thunder where as the S.E rendition is bland in comparison this however doesn't stop me playing it ALOT but if you think this argument is a quantity over quality argument you're very much mistaken.

>>3877707
Damn nice poster, i have an auricom tshirt myself.
>>
>>3877716
So your argument is basically SE sucks because it's PAL.

Yawn
>>
>>3872134
One does not replace the other. Wipeout 3 has too many damn shield weapons and the weapons are in-general lack the 'punch' of 2097's.

IMO, the best Wipeout would be Wipeout 3 with 2097 weapons, both music sets and all the extra tracks from SE. One day some lonely hacker may make this dream a reality.
>>
>>3877726
No it isn't at all but if that's the limits of your reading comprehension then so be it, i'm not wasting my time reiterating points for blatantly low tier pleb players who think quantity is an argument against quality.

Heres a top tier run in S.E amazing execution respect to WMJ but tell me does this look good to you in terms of game design?

wip3out special edition (europe)
>>
Who /first person view/ here
>>
>>3879781
Do you mean the aesthetics of the level? Overall 3 feels a lot cleaner whereas 1 and 2097 had a much grittier atmosphere.
>>
Is it just my imagination or does scraping the sides in Wipeout 3 occasionally cause you to accelerate uncontrollably?
>>
>>3881130
No i don't and i have no idea wtf you're referring to either.
>>3881418
Yes it does
>>
>>3881418
Scraping and grazing is real, it's a cool tech although I'm not good enough to manipulate it on demand
>>
>>3876627
I did, it is ace
