Yeah I played all the /vr/ ones.
I actually played Kichikuou first, and then went back and played the main series afterwords. The Alice no Yakata 4-5-6 box has Rance 1 through 3 in it.

I've played Kichikuou and I'm playing Rance 6 right now and loving it. Such an excellent series. I can honestly and unironically say that I play it for the plot, characters, and gameplay far more than the ero.

The only ones missing are the remakes of 1 and 3.
And the earlier version of 2.

Maybe the PC-9821 versions of 4.1 and 4.2 because the Windows 3 versions are complicated to get running.

I would suggest reading the digest version of 1 instead of playing it.
Graphics, gameplay and the translation of the game are poor.

1 - primitive, mediocre art, last part is terrible without a walkthrough
2 - significant upgrade from the first game, but still on the simple side
3 - suddenly FREAKIN' MASTERPIECE
4 - fancier graphics than 3 but a step down otherwise

Problem with 3 was that once you got Feliss (which was practically at the start) the combat was broken and would never be difficult again until Noce which could be a bit challenging if your level wasn't high enough.

Played Rance 1-2-3 and tried playing 4 several times. Just not enough motivation to clear it.

I had fun playing through 3.

Other than 3 the only other one I played through was Sengoku Rance. I did "play" those short versions of 1 and 2 but I don't remember anything about them.
