How long will NES controllers last? Will they eventually all break down with buttons that don't register properly any longer?
Aren't those old Nintendo things made out of Nintendium? They'll prolly outlive us all.

These controllers become faulty after a while

The buttons can get sticky
probably for a long while. Regular maintenance is a good thing, and if you get new ones, touch them up because they are likely 30 years old. Very common controllers so you'll probably always have options and replacements. Learn how to clean the PCB, pads, etc.

How often would you repair the buttons for not registering?

they die, but last a long time.
Yes.
I have never ever had an NES controller wear out or even encountered a worn out one. Broken in half ones, yes but not worn out.
All my nes and snes controllers are unresponsive because of broken rubber pads.
Has anyone tried to replace them with some cheap nes/snes rubber pads from ebay? I don't want to spend more than 3-4 bucks on this.

I did recently for an NES controller. The A and B buttons actually feel pretty nice. The d-pad not so much, but it still works fine.

post ebay link, all my old pads are worn out

I would love to know how to get an NES controller to have buttons that register well.

If replacing the rubber parts doesn't fix it, you can sand the black crap off of the connections on the board.

Gameboy pads also fit.
