As someone who has three friends I regularly Mario Party with, fun times being the priority and bullshit welcome, Sonic Shuffle is fucking abominable and you'd have to be brain dead to think it's anywhere near as fun as Hudson's MP titles. If it was just a straight rip-off it'd be a fine game but the changes they made completely ruin the game's appeal, particularly opting for a 'mini game space' instead of a game each round - you can go fucking 20 minutes with no mini game. It's built around that too as there's barely any mini games in the game, if you're not on the board you're probably in a solo AI battle for a shitty item or reading 'storybook' segments that literally serve no purpose whatsoever. I've always wanted to like it but I just have no clue what they were going for.

I played more Sonic Shuffle than Mario Party but I always thought the card system implementation was ace, and the way the boards worked too. Way later I played some Mario Party with friends and could not believe how unfair the dice was to one of my friends and how the winner did not really deserve the win. Also the board was way more limited and the mini games were not much better than Shuffle's ones (if any).
