I played Duke Nukem 64 first and now every other version feels wrong. Playing on PC with Doom-like controls just doesn't work. I need to be able to fluidly look up and down like I'm playing Quake.

Are you talking about the controls or the 2.5D renderer ?

The controls can be changed. For the renderer, play in EDuke32 and use polymost, it will look the same but in full3D.

There is a Duke Nukem 64 mod for PC for EDuke32 too.

I've changed the controls around but it just isn't the same. It's the lack of up/down look that kills it. If I could play with a mouse then it might feel right, but I know it isn't really made with that in mind. I played Duke Nukem with a controller too long for anything else to really feel natural I think.

But what advantages are there to EDuke32 though. Anything that could potentially win me over? Looks aren't a problem if that's all it does.

You can play with a mouse and have free look (press U to enable/disable free look)

The original DOS game supported mouse. However, there is an issue with Build games when looking in diagonal with a mouse it's like the sensitivity is lower than when looking straight u/p or l/r. This can be fixed with bMouse though, and it's fixed in sourceports like EDuke32.

Back in 1996/1997, mouse wasn't a standard for Duke3D but it was used. The standard, especially for online multiplayer, was kb+joystick, which is incredibly similar kb+mouse.
