Pic related was one of the worst I played. It really hurt much worse for me because I desperately wanted it to be at least average. A star wars fighting game sounds like a great idea. I thought I just needed to get good but eventually, when the blinders were gone, I was just sad

City of Lost Children without question.

It's basically a point and click adventure game but because of the "detailed" graphics and low resolution you often can't even really see on screen the items you're supposed to click on. I remember finding a pair of scissors in an alley beside a trash can. Nothing to indicate scissors would be there, you can't see them you just have to search there.

So you just wander around searching every inch of the map and every single time she doesn't find anything you hear either "I can't do it" or "I can't do anything!" Over and over and over and over.

The kicker? If you actually want to keep playing the game is that you better have a spare memory card because a single save game needs an entire memory card.

The movie it's based on was great though. Highly recommended.

Tomb Raider was definitely not the worst game I ever played, but I always thought it was massively overrated. I remember playing so many shitty games off of demo discs that I honestly can't think of the worst game ever.

>>
>>3833001
You know Gauntlet is a thing, right?
>>
Did anyone else play ODT: Escape or Die Trying?

It looked and played like a Tomb Raider clone but had action RPG elements and a steampunk fantasy setting. A magazine preview made it sound like it was going to be amazing and I bought it, only to discover that it didn't play as good as it looked and the level design and controls were frustratingly confusing.

I actually define that as my redpill moment for vidya magazine "preview" articles: just straight-up advertisement with no true criticism. Never fell for it again.

It looks great, but thats it. Its design isn't natural and the respawning zombie enemies in hallways you can't dodge is fucking terrible. Resident Evil has hallway zombies, but you can dodge them if you know what you're doing.

Plus look at this stupid thing - LOOK AT IT.

Its clearly made by Frenchmen because the english dialogue and writing mostly suck eggs, resulting in puzzles that don't make sense.

Plus it has no replay value or unlockable content or extra endings - like you know, every other survival horror game at the time.

The PS1 practically lasted quite a while, up until 2004 when the 7th gen consoles were being worked on. Hell, the PS2 pretty much only recently died around 2013 or so, right around when the 8th generation of consoles were about to come out. Hell, only reason why the PS2 got games at that point was because of Brazil and their demand for Soccer games, and the fact that current gen tech is fucking expensive as all fuck there thanks to mark ups.

But it was either PS2 or this piece of shit
>>
>>3834492
Oooooh yeah... I gave that one a try. There wasn't much there. But when they... changed art? I kept on at it trying to figure out the what that meant.

But it didn't mean anything. They just swapped the art content for no apparent reason. And then because I was a massive loser, I kept at it and it cycled through the art packs a couple times.

Yeah, it was pretty awful. It was one of the few times as a child I actually got bored of a game.
>>
>>3833021
I just started tomb raider the other day, and what stands out to me is the amount of control you have. It's cumbersome at first, and sometimes clunky even when you git gud, but you can do neat shit like dodge left and pull out guns mid-air, shoot bad guy, backflip real quick for another dodge, etc... all pretty fluidly... Good game.
>>
>>3833463
I remember the Evil Dead: HTTK left a similar imprint on me. The puzzles and what-not all felt fine, and the gameplay was okay... but the respawning monsters literally ruined the game.
>>
>>3834501

It's funny how everyone likes to meme about "there's FIFA 14 on the PS2 because brazilians xD" when literally nobody here bought original titles to begin with. Hell, even the biggest retailers here sold modchipped consoles to play burned games. It doesn't help every game release costs something like 1/3 the price of the console. That being said, I really don't know who EA (and also Konami) were trying to appeal with those versions instead focusing on newer platforms
>>
>>3834794
No FIFA 14 on PS2 and FIFA 05 on PS1 in the states isn't because of Brazilians, it's Mexicans.
>>
>>3834794
They were trying to appeal to 156 million goddamn units.

Plus I'm pretty sure the later FIFA games on PS2 were super-cheap cash-ins, just like the last FIFA games on Wii.

>>

lol that sounds hilariously bad, how does the game penalize you for shooting?
>>
>>3835241

Basically, you can only shoot when you're in robot mode, but doing that automatically drains your life. At the same time, when you're in beast mode you can't shoot at anything, so you get peppered with enemy fire and die anyway.

Hellboy: Asylum Seeker was absolute trash, I think I never played for more than 30 minutes.

In fact as most people here knows, games licensed on properties from other media end up being awful most of the time, as >>3829615 kind of pointed out. I recall some others like Spawn or Roswell Conspiracies (based on a cartoon from the late '90s I think) being pretty bad too.

Also I'm a football fan and boy if there are some bad games based on that (or any sport in general). I remember a game called LMA Manager that was pretty similar in design to what is now the popular Football Manager series. The game wasn't awful, but it wasn't good either, the thing with it is that in top of being mediocre it required a whole memory card (15 slots) to save your data.

Also Mortal Kombat: Special Forces. It makes Mythologies look amazing in comparison.

I think most of the OST fits pretty well for something as 60's as the Fantastic Four.
The Latveria theme is perfect for the place, albeit a bit repectitive
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsM6fAGVcwc

FF is a really bad game, and the sprites look awful, as it seems the west can't into sprites, but the controls make it unbearable. Why the fuck use every controller button? Capcom would have used only 2 or 3 buttons.

Also, I'm the only one who finds the Mole Man monster (Giganto) a bit too scary? It seems they modeled it with the big frog mouth from the cover, but whoever did the texture drew a small mouth and turned the character in some scary swamp monster.

That's the problem, bizarrely enough there were no such thing as "$9,99" bargain bin games in Brazil like in 1st world countries, FIFA and PES were full price at that time. The whole PS2 history here is a clusterfuck, the console only arrived "officially" here in 2009 or 2010, something like that, and priced as more than R$1000, dunno about the exchange rate at the time but was probably about 400 ~ 500 us dollars. Well, at least during 6th gen we hadn't those bargain bin, strangely enough games on 7th gen are more sensibly priced, at least now. Battleborn is also literally being throwed away
>>
>>3835214
Reminds me of the Dragonheart game. After swinging your sword at enemies a few times you would get tired and need to rest - you couldn't move and the enemies could still attack you. Worst game on PS1 imo

Imagine, if you will, a 3-d fighting game like Tekken. Imagine if it was actually from an isometric perspective. Imagine if you swapped human characters for boats. Imagine tank controls. Then scrap that and imagine boat controls.

>>
>>3829273
I can't remember the name of it, but there was an early ps1 brawler with tank controls and prerendered backgrounds where you played as a time traveling cop or something. In the second level you wake up in Rome and some whore starts walking up to seduce you but she's holding a knife behind her back so you best the shit out of her.

That's probably the worst game I remember on the system. Well, that or this ESPN X Games game that obviously predated THPS because you just picked either a bike, in-line skates, or a luge and just raced. It was pretty gay.

Before the whole tech bubble burst, there was a shit ton to make with software and technology, you could pretty much be set for life if everything goes well. So of course everyone wanted to make their own company just for vidya, internet commerce, etc.

And then the whole bubble bursted, many went bankrupt, and suddenly no one wanted to do it anymore for a long while, which meant many jokes in sitcoms for years about how having an online storefront was an unprofitable business and that "Nano tech is where it's at! Ecommerce is dead!"

And now Amazon essentially owns everything, so I guess it sucks to be everyone who gave up on Internet business and let Amazon grow.

OH COSMIC RACE! :)

I remember the infamy of this game in the mid-90's due to Game Players Magazine having their score of 0 being Cosmic Race. For months they had that rating and no one understood what the fuck it meant. Finally, right before their magazine changed over to ULTRA Game Players, they explained it.

They said it was the worst excuse for a game they ever played. It used sample models from the PS1 dev kits as characters. The controls were terrible. No collision detection, terrible music, horrific graphics...

When I finally saw a Youtube video of it a few years ago I couldn't believe how god awful it was. Only a few people even remember this atrocity.

Both Final Bout and UB22 are horrid, shitty games but you can't discount how fucking cool they were to my ten year old self, as despite DBZ having just started its run in the UK they had all these strange characters I didn't know. Recognizing each new character as they're introduced on TV from the games was really fun. Even then it was obvious they played like shit but the music and animated intros kept me coming back.

It wasn't that bad, once you figure out the combat system. It also predates Onimusha by several years. Hell, the main character guy was pretty damn funny from what I remember.

Okay dude SotS was amazing!! Please play it it's got a classic anime story feel to it; you will LOVE IT, Promise. And it's nothing like onimusha; completely different games.

SotS is really challenging and rewarding. And the combat and items are awesome. Some of the most memorable weapons in a game for me to this day.

It's not so much that it's a bad looking game on the whole - it's that Hellboy's model was seemingly made by an unpaid intern with no grasp of anatomic proportions, and somehow nobody on the dev team cared enough to speak up on the fact that the model for the TITULAR PLAYER CHARACTER was hot dogshit.

To be fair, though, it's not exactly surprising that a the devs didn't care - a PS1 game released in 2004? They surely knew they were working on unsellable garbage right from the start.

To be even more fair it looks like the model was based off the comic book style, which does suffer from tiny limbs, huge torso, and tree trunk neck. It's still off compared to the source material, but I think that's the big reason.
>>
>>3856965
If you think that's bad, even in the generation after that this was an issue. Animal Crossing for Gamecube came with its own memory card because you needed an entire card to save your town (I think this was 4MB?).

Even when compared to modern games that seems like a lot.

Inspector Gadget was Matthew Broderick.

Inspector Gadget 2 recast him with French Stewart.

Also IG2 was much more faithful to the source material. Which was itself just an 11th-hour retooling of an unauthorized Lupin III spinoff.

Yeah, just now. Before then, games got retooled from the ground up to get on other systems, and it usually meant quite a bit of changes to the point where the game doesn't look the same anymore. Either that or just plop them as is on a new console, where they still look the same, but the difference is higher resolution, although depending on game, it gets worse (Sometimes stretched out, sometimes introduces new bugs they didn't iron out, sometimes framerate and stuttering issues that weren't there before that makes the game unbearable).

there's no need to get political; consoles were to games what pc is to games now.. It's all about the easiest format to make your games on, that gets you the most exposure. Now that consoles are desperately trying to emulate pc's, its getting completely redundant. Stuff like controllers and flight sticks can exist on any format.
>>
>>3866937
It wasn't meant to be political or incite a console war. I'm very much a PC gamer and do the overwhelming majority of game playing on PC and have done so for most my life. I'm just stating that PC can never be beaten in shovelware garbage video games.

And I agree with the new consoles now being pretty bleh now. Only reason to even buy one now is if your friends play on them or if you find the rare few games that actually stay exclusive to consoles now.
>>

The only reason I'd buy a cheap ps3 again is to play red dead redemption again or last of multiplayer.

TM 1 is very fun to play as low armor characters since guys Like Crimson Fury dies fast if ramed by Darkside or Warthog, i love the level Assault on Cyburbia since its huge and there are many enemies.
