Just beat this, I think I prefer it over Link's Awakening.

Not many gameboy games have endings that good.

I bought the translated repro from aliexpress for like $5 and will play it eventually, however. My only issue is that I don't understand how the battle system works?

Charming title and one of my favorite gb games.

Its as basic as "did you get you get the last quest item? Congrats, you're strong enough". There is only one section, a boss battle about half way through, where a strategy and timing are required.
