You're supposed to save the frogs, but you can kill them.

This isn't funny.

>This board is for the discussion of classic, or "retro" games. Retro gaming means consoles, computer games, arcade games (including pinball) and any other forms of video games on platforms launched in 1999 and earlier. With the release of the 8th generation of consoles, the Sega Dreamcast will now be considered "retro", though the remainder of the sixth generation (Xbox, PS2, GameCube) will not.
>>3826870
No, read the sticky. 1999 or earlier, period.
Oh here we go, 250 posts arguing over an arbitrary date again
>>3826914
There is nothing to discuss anymore. We need /v2k/
>>3826928
The last thing we need is another slow ass board. If anything we should be trying to get more traffic going in here, not less.
>>3826928
No we don't. Learn to follow the rules and go to /vg/ for any other games you'd like to discuss.
>>3826943
Slower boards are higher in quality. /v/ is bad because it's so fast and no one bothers to put any thought or effort into their posts. It's a good thing /vr/ is slow. Treasure these non-/v/ moments, my dear anon. For they are the most precious.
>>3826943
More traffic on /vr/? Really? You're aware /vr/ is no longer a slow board, right? It hasn't been for a while now, and it's now faster than boards that have existed for far longer than /vr/, like /m/ or /jp/.
/v2k/ wouldn't be slow at all, either. Between 6th and 7th gen alone you have 15 years worth of vidya discussion (and will keep expanding as more generations come by).
The last thing /vr/ needs is more console wars. A new board for a newer generation will help make things more civil.
Also, if we include 6th gen here, people will still whine about 7th gen, the problem will remain.
/v2k/ was the most logical solution /vr/ came up with in past discussions.
There is a frog boss who looks like a deformed Nemekian in Alien Soldier if that counts?
>>3826973
That's turning me on.
>>3826964
>It's still one of the slowest boards here. I think another board is a ridiculous idea, what we need is more posters on this board.
You mean more people whining that their childhood is nor part of /vr/? Remember, if 6th gen is allowed, thent he whining for 7th gen will start.
/v2k/ is the best solution.
Also no, /vr/ is not one of the slowest boards on 4chan. Maybe you think that way because the only others boards you browse are /b/, /tv/, /pol/, etc, but the majority of other boards on this site are slower than /vr/. I'd say /vr/ is middleground as far as traffic goes.
I know his name is Gekko, but he's obviously a frog.
Also,leave politics out of /vr/
>>3826978
I visit most of the boards here, actually /pol/ and /b/ are two of the only ones I never bother with, and this place is slower than most.
Really though it's fresh ideas I want more than just faster traffic. So often before even clicking on a thread I know what's going to be said because it's the same people saying the same things over and over.
I still think the best solution is to go to either a 15 or 20 year old rule instead of going by console. That removes the question of "when will X be retro", keeps things fresh because new games come up for discussion regularly and keeps this place just for talking about old games, which under the current rules it isn't necessarily.
>>3826986
What other boaqrds do you visit?
I visit /m/, /toy/, /cgl/, /k/, /o/, all slower than /vr/, or about the same.
>Really though it's fresh ideas I want more than just faster traffic.
Tough luck, the internet as a whole is out of fresh ideas. The only thing you will get if we allow 6th gen here is more console wars and more shitposting, not fresh ideas.
At least on /vr/ we can have the occassional 2nd gen thread every now and then. If more gens are allowed, and the board becomes faster, say good bye to these.
>I still think the best solution is to go to either a 15 or 20 year old rule instead of going by console.
But the rule is about years, not going by console. The rule on /vr/ is that the limit is hardware from or before 1999.
The problem with the "what is retro" thing is that there is not an official consensus on how many years is retro. Some sources say 15, others say 50.
/v2k/ would solve many problems, first of all it will finally liberate /vr/ from the "when will [x] will be retro?", forever, because everything after the year 1999 that isn't current gen will go automatically to /v2k/, and in turn it may (though I don't guarantee) bring fresh ideas, since /vr/ will be free of that kind of shitposting, and /v2k/ will enjoy a period of freshness, at least the first couple months.
>>3826994
>Tough luck, the internet as a whole is out of fresh ideas.
We disagree on this as well then. And I've had almost this exact conversation numerous times and we will never even come close to agreeing. I like this place because it focuses on old games I like but I think it's slow and stale. I would welcome more posters.
>>3827015
Right, we'll have to disagree then, because I'm sure "more posters" will be just more shitposting, not better content.
Also I don't know... you want more discussion, but you'd just like to discuss 6th gen? What about 7th gen? It's already 10 years old.
With /vr/ and /v2k/ we'd be able to discuss more. With just /vr/ with added 6th gen, we won't be able to discuss as much.
Unless your idea is also including 360 and PS3 to /vr/
>>3827039
I don't necessarily want to discuss 6th gen, but I see including it as a good way to bring new people and discussion topics to the board and I think 6th gen is old enough now that it's appropriate.
As I said, my preferred method would be to allow discussion of any game that is of a certain age. 15 years seems most reasonable to me, but I would be happy with 20 as well.
I don't think it would be appropriate to add PS3/360 yet either, but if this board survives in 5 or 10 years I do think it will be. In my eyes we really only need 3 dedicated gaming boards here. /v/ for new games, /vg/ for popular running series and /vr/ for old games.
>>3827065
/vg/ isn't just for long running series, you can also make console generals there (for example, you can do a PS2 or Gamecube general on /vg/, the problem is that /vg/ is shit).
I think allowing for anything that's 15 years old on /vr/ will make the board too fast and discussing certain topics (as the aforementioned 2nd gen, for example) very difficult, while console ward threads between Sony, Sega and Sony fans will be as rampant as ever, but to each his own I guess.
The past times we had discussions about this on /vr/ I saw a lot of people agreeing about /v2k/ and I genuinely think it's a good idea, because that would also mean we wouldn't have to wait 5, 10 or 15 years to discuss something that isn't brand-new anymore.
Then again, I like the pacing of /vr/, it's not too slow (like, you can get replies within a few minutes, depending on the thread), but you can also leave a thread and come back at night or the next morning and it will most likely still be there. It's not dead, but not too fast either. I'd like /vr/ to keep this pacing.
I imagine /v2k would have a similar pacing as well.
>>3827081
>the problem is that /vg/ is shit
You seem to think everything is shit. More people would be bad because just more shitposting. Sometimes I feel like one of the only people who comes here that actually genuinely likes 4chan.
>>3827120
But I like /vr/, and I remember when it had less shitposting.
I don't think everything is shit, but I have critical thinking. The few times I went to /vg/, it was shit.
>>3827135
Me too but I don't think less people is the key to less shitposting. If anything I think the insular nature of the small population here is one of the things contributing to the shitposting here.
/vg/ varies greatly by which thread you go in.
>>3827120
Give /vg/ a chance. It's really nowhere near as bad as /v/.
>>3827156
No, my reasoning is that more generations = more shitposting, since console wars originate from each person's own experience and what consoles their parents could get them.
It's something that doesn't happen with gen 2 or gen 3 as much, but is rampant on gen 4 and 5, and is at least as rampant on gen 6 and 7.
Anyway, again, I'm happy with /vr/'s pacing and I explained why, if you don't think the same way then let's agree to disagree.
also, a lot of /vr/'s worst group of shitposters come from /vg/, for example the shmupfags.
>>3827162
I'm a regular visitor to both several /vg/ threads as well as /v/. They vary a lot. Some are basically just waifu fight threads at this point but others are some of the friendliest places on 4chan. I met some genuine friends on /acg

/v2k/ would be worthless. Novel for just a moment and then dead in the water. With how much room for discussion on decades of games that fall under the /vr/ umbrella we got a ton of recycled threads of the same shit day after day and so on. /v2k/ wouldn't stand a chance. Some of the other anons are right in saying that we need more traffic here. At least keep things stimulated with new thread topics
.

A frogs gotta do what a frogs gotta do
Magician Lord for Neo Geo. There's a maze level full of little frogs that can't hurt you, but if you don't kill them immediately they mutate into frog men. Sounds easy right? Your normal attack is weak as shit and takes like 3 hits to kill even the little frogs. Power ups are very rare, and lost from being hit just once. Your character is slow, clumsy, and has a HUGE hitbox. There are flying monsters that chase you and shoot projectiles at you, that seem carefully timed to get you just as you're jumping or climbing ladders, so you can't dodge. And if you use save states to try to do a perfect playthrough, some weird monsters appear and just fucking kill you. Strange game.
>>3832790
Forgot pic. The player in this is about to die as he has no way to kill or dodge the disciples of Kek that can jump across the entire screen.
