How long do game consoles/games last? It stands to reason that even the best made consoles will eventually break down just due to plastic decaying, glue giving way, capacitors dying, batteries leaking though etc. Most people on this sub are playing games decades longer then they were designed to run. Already people are having to get game-boy screens replaced due to ink-based screens not being made to last past a few years and many older, obscure consoles (philips CD-i, Gizmodo, Amstrad GX4000) are failing left right and centre due some old inherent design flaw.

How long do you think before some consoles become unplayable without extreme life support?

Also, obligatory mention that any first run Xbox 360 is guaranteed to fail at some point or another.

Atari 2600's are still going strong.

The most likely thing to go in these consoles is capacitors, which will need to be replaced, but the replacement is fairly trivial.

I would say your standard NES' and SNES will probably work for the next 75-100 years with maintenance and proper storage.

Guru Larry made a video about this. His videos are fun, I don't mind shilling it.

I hear that cartridge stuff will outlive us all, but anything running a disc is gonna fail within a decade or so.

actually custom thumbnails like these save me a lot of time by indicating that the video was made for monetization rather than information.

>decades longer then they were designed
Source? Seems odd you know this "fact" when you start off by asking how long they last. Stored properly the chips and boards will last hundreds of years. Components and solder will need to be replaced after as early as 50 years.

>obligatory mention that im underage
Got it
