5>6>4. Highly recommended.
>>
>>3805872
cons:
>simple story, sometimes lack of direction on where to go next
>high encounter rate
>somewhat obscure secrets (mostly getting many of the espers)
pros:
>fast paced
>best mechanics of any FF game
>tough but fair
>probably the most fun of the SNES FFs

Miles better than FFIV, and depending on how much do you value story, better than FFVI

i didnt like the job system because the high amount of choice it gave me made me fear that i was fucking up my characters and i couldnt decide which jobs to use and i am kinda paralyzed about playing this game. on top of that, the job system takes away all the uniqueness of the characters. locke being a fast thief and cyan being a juggernaught mofo etc gave the characters a personality which FFV obviously lacks, so it is hard to care that much about the characters or advancing the story. also the story is bland and boring.

help pls i want to enjoy this game

>A role-playing game is offering me choices and thus I didn't enjoy it

I think you might have a severe case of plebitude.

You have 4 characters, just make your own mind and assign different roles to them. Have one tank, one rogue, one defensive caster, one offensive caster or whatever you want

>Have one tank, one rogue, one defensive caster, one offensive caster or whatever you want

should i let my knight learn the counter ability from the monk? do i need a monk at all? are blue mages worth it? am i wasting my MP getting white 3 magic when im not anywhere close to even getting the cure 2 magic, should i instead turn my white mage into a brawler as well? or do i make him into a black mage? are time wizards worth it? what about mystic knights, they need a turn of charging but he odesnt always outdamage a normal knight, is it even worth it? should i make a monk with blue magic or a black mage with blue magic?

i am constantly overthinking things and questioning my choices and stopping the game to look at the job screen figuring out combinations that are good
>>
>>3805901
honestly, i didn't appreciate FFV until I participated in the four job fiesta. it shows you how many viable job combinations there are, and encourages you really explore the game and strategize your boss fights. i've only beaten FFV once the "normal" way, and three times under the 4JF rules. the 4JF makes it just that much more fun.

the jist of the 4JF is you are restricted to using only four jobs, assigned to you randomly based on a ruleset of your choosing. some bosses can be *really* tough with certain party configurations, but its still fun. http://fourjobfiesta.com/

It's my personal favorite FF, I agree with >>3805887 almost entirely. It's biggest fault is the generic story and characters, so if that's a really important thing for you, you'll probably prefer VI.

>>3805901
I don't think there's anything with the jobs that completely fucks your shit up, so I don't think it's worth stressing out about. And V has a lot of replay value because you have so many options, so you can always play again with stat optimization in mind or explore other options.

also, great Captcha

>should i let my knight learn the counter ability from the monk?
Only if you want, it's not necessary IMO. I prefer the Knight/Ninja/Samurai skills to do physical damage
>do i need a monk at all?
no but it's a nice damage dealer in the beginning of the game
>are blue mages worth it?
yes, you can learn badass abilities but as always.
>am i wasting my MP getting white 3 magic when im not anywhere close to even getting the cure 2 magic, should i instead turn my white mage into a brawler as well?
a white mage is always essential and later white magic levels can learn very good spells, including Holy for damage dealing
>are time wizards worth it?
it depends, I like them. Getting them to learn Slow2 & Haste2 can be a lifesaver but you can ignore them as well. It's a question of playstile and fit. Personally I find a time mage/summoner mix to be a very powerful build
what about mystic knights, they need a turn of charging but he odesnt always outdamage a normal knight, is it even worth it?
mystic knights are kinda shit at the beginning but can be overpowered in the late game. Good physical damage + Flare.
>should i make a monk with blue magic or a black mage with blue magic?
whatevs, that's the magic of the game, you can think of many builds for any character. Personally I'd pick the first, you have good damage spells with blue magic alone if you bother to learn some spells

>i am constantly overthinking things and questioning my choices and stopping the game to look at the job screen figuring out combinations that are good
the game although tough, isn't that hard to be overthinking things. You just have to pick some favorite jobs to build on, and then have some situational ones just in case (thief, bards, trainer, etc). In late game you'll receive plenty of AP to master many jobs
>>
>>3805935
>yes, you can learn badass abilities but as always.
left the phrase unfinished. "as always it depends on how much do you want to search for those skills"
>>
The job system is one of the best in any FF game. I still like 4 and 6 more for story and characters, but 5 has more entertaining gameplay (if you like option-rich but straightforward character customization).
>>
I would say it's the best RPG on the SNES mechanically, and I personally don't rate its story particularly low. It isn't packed to the brim with character drama, but there are a lot of (mostly optional) scenes of character development. Plus the villain is bombastic and intimidating, the OST is top-notch, and it has a lot to discover if you explore.

>>3805918
FFV is designed in a way that it's almost impossible to fuck your characters up. You really are overthinking it. Every job can be made useful, and while there are objectively optimal ways to play, those only become apparent if you read a guide or study the mechanics.

The best advice is to take it as it comes; if you think "Man, I wish my mystic knight could counter," put him on monk for a while. If you think "Man, I wish my healer had some damage output," put him on Black Mage or Summoner for a bit. Really, the only jobs to avoid on your first playthrough are shit like Beastmaster or Chemist, which really require in-depth knowledge of the game. Don't worry about whether you're minmaxing your guys, just experiment and see what's effective for you.
>>
>>3805872
It took the mechanical polish from IV, dialed it down a little, and then put it in a game that had more open-ended and meaningful character customization than any FF before it. It's not just the best SNES FF, it's the best mainline FF in general.
>>
There is no minmaxing in it, which is great. You don't gain stats on leveling up, aside from HP or MP, and will gain a stat boost for Freelancer/Bare upon mastering another Job.

There's a lot to enjoy with FFV.
>>
>>3805872
It's great. One of the most fun games in the series. Depending on what you value in your JRPGs it might be the weakest or the strongest SNES-era FF. It takes everything wrong with FF3's job system and just improves on it. The GBA translation did it a huge favour by making it not take itself seriously until it does, with satisfying effect. Gameplay is A+, Characters are a straight B. Plot is a C. Graphics and music are unfortunately a bit forgettable but definitely not bad.

>>3805901
>the job system takes away all the uniqueness of the characters
Ironically enough, I think FFVI suffers from that problem more than V does since it HAS forced jobs but the job-specific abilities become pretty damn useless once you reach the WoR.

"Here's Edgar, he's a machinist but his skills as a machinist are only useful in the first half of the game."

And in my post-first FFV playthroughs I like to make certain characters specialise in certain jobs i.e, Lenna is support with light offense: white mage, bard, geomancer and ranger. Faris is brute force and agile jobs, berserker, thief, samurai, etc. Bartz is the all-rounder and is allowed to overlap jobs with the other characters.

>high amount of choice
If you think FFV is bad then you should try one of the SaGa games. At least FFV is impossible to mess up. I've had to restart a SaGa playthrough because I played it wrong and the game became impossible to win.
>>
>>3805901
the biggest thing is sooner or later, you need to start actually mastering jobs

doesn't matter how many, or what they are, but you need at least a few - the Freelancer bonuses from mastered jobs are a big deal
>>
>>3807821
>"Here's Edgar, he's a machinist but his skills as a machinist are only useful in the first half of the game."

Not really. You can instant kill pseudo bosses with the chainsaw, and max out his STR or Magic and he can hit-all with 999 damage.
>>
>>3809841
But that involves cheesing and min-maxing, you can make any character anything if you do that. You can make Cyan do the exact same by focusing on the same stats and using that multi-hit bushido skill.
