3DO Japanese FZ-10 or FZ-1?3DO Thread
fz-10, don't be crazy
The Sony PlayStation® 3

Advantages of each:
FZ-10
No noisy fan.
Can arrange the memory without a special disc/game.
Optical drive is easier to clean, disassemble for repair, drivebay door never gets stuck (tray loaders often get this, especially OG Xbox)
FZ-1
If the drive does fail you can simply replace the whole thing with an IDE PC CDROM drive.
Load times may even decrease if you do this.
You don't *have* to get a Japanese 3DO, there's only like 6 games that rely on the Kanji chip instead of just putting the fonts on the disc. Most of these games are either kusoge, demos/previews, or are available on Saturn.
FZ-1 is a lot nicer looking

mnot that anon but you cant google?
the drive in a fz1 is just a Creative/Panasonic/Matsushita CR-563 PC CD-ROM drive. You pop it in and swap the faceplate with the 3do one.

All models of 3DO can have their drives replaced but you need an adapter as they don't have an IDE header on the motherboard.
This Russian guy actually made a USB adapter for playing games off flashdrives:

He made one just for CD drives as well. Still wasn't cheap.

When you "pop it in" do you plug the 30 pin cable from the console into the 40 pin connector on the drive or the 40 pin cable from the drive into the 30 pin connector on the console. Epic fucking kek kid.

That same guy used to sell an IDE adapter. The cheapest was about $60 at the time and is no longer available.
I hope we can consider the myth of "simply replacing" or "just popping in" an IDE drive to be well and truly busted.
