>That cover art on the left
Transport Tycoon:
>bribe the officials, build an airport anywhere you want to
>swastika islands
>naming your CEO something filthy, get his portrait on newspapers for all your competitors to see
>sneakily cutting roads so that your competitor can't get their trucks to their truck stops
Motherfucking plane crashes, train accidents, and financial frauds!
Occupying huge spots of land just for the fucks of it!
>oh you want to build a shipyard here? well FUCK YOU!
Spending millions of dollars on bridges that stretch from continent to another, all because you have the money for it
Funding your own city!
Some company has a monopoly on some neighborhood? Fund a street construction work so that their trucks and buses can't get to their destination!
I fucking love Transport Tycoon! I get to be the smug rich asshole I always wanted to be.

I wonder what that art style is called. Many 90s computer magazines had art like that.
>>3799942
Damn now I want to reinstall OpenTTD
>>3799951
clip art style
see it influenced a lot in late 90s cartoons too.

Hard to say what the name is but I love it too. Some more examples I have saved

I never played Transport Tycoon but from what I heard from most anons on here, it is better than Sim City 2000 (which is the game I grew up with). I need to play it whenever I get a chance.

I think Earthworm Jim used a similar style. THink of Evil the Cat for example

Yeah, art icon style and music form a very cohesive style. Slightly quirky/funny, with a little bit enjoyable cheesiness.
I've alway though that MS and other tech companies picked it because it was more conservative than '90s "grunge" and "year 2K" stuff.

Some music to fit the style https://youtu.be/FucuEvjNvZU
OK that's all for me, this is a game thread after all.

art major here
the transport tycoon cover is definitely inspired by old art deco posters, which was a popular trend in the 80s
>>3799970
is also 1920s art deco overlapping with expressionism (the image is suggestive of a german woodcut print)

these you might want to look up "memphis-milano" style which was big in the 80s and overlapped with a lot of different graphic arts and media

You know your stuff mate, very interesting.
Pic somewhat related, I guess. After seeing this >>3799935 , illustrator Lorenzo Mattotti's work popped into my mind immediately.

TTD is arguably the better game, but SimCity 2000 is still the best looking game I've ever played.

I was wondering, what are an arts major's favorite games? In terms of personal enjoyment or for "artistic" reasons, just list some titles you'd recommend.

I guess the art-deco influence in Memphis got a bit more emphasized in that style of clipart. That said, Memphis made it a bit crazier/funnier, where art deco was generally a bit grim and uptight, with streamlined straight lines and machine-like forms.
Otherwise, yeah, that's spot on. Memphis was responsible for those bright geometric figures and the squiggly lines that were all over the mainstream in the '80s.

Here's probably the most recognizable example of Memphis-inspired style

unsurprisingly, when I was a kid i'd often pick out video games based on the box art and simcity 2000 was one which ended up being a long-time favourite (because I thought the alien spaceship was cool). I still play both 2000 and sc3k
the last "artistic" game I really enjoyed was myst, as pretentious as it sounds, I'd never really experienced anything like it when it came out. it was like being immersed in a strange new world.
Simcity2000
Cause i never played the other.
