Awesome, glad to hear that it's playable.
>they made a Primal Rage sequel
>the fighters are hideous looking giants
>the dinosaurs and apes are relegated to a special attack
>making a Primal Rage sequel with a roster that isn't just more dinosaurs
How did they fuck up this badly? Who could look at Primal Rage and not recognize that the biggest draw for kids and adults alike was "holy shit! - giant dinosaur fighting game?"
If there are other continents on the other side of the planet why not just create more giant animal fighters?

You can play as the dinosaurs or the human avatars.

It took the guy who made it work, Gruntzilla94, 3 years to get it working. 3 fucking years. I couldn't imagine being that dedicated to what ultimately turned out to be a pretty crappy game, but it's amazing anyway that he managed to do it.

The dinos are playable, just hidden. There's also a hidden, special version of the human avatars where they can switch between their human or dino forms at will. A bit odd, but games usually are when they're in an alpha stage.

Very cool that it's playable now, it's an interesting little lost game. The game looks like it plays much better than the awful original, but the character models look awful. It's unfortunate, because it actually animates really really well, but the humans look too much like playdoh.
Lets hope that now someone will hack it to disable the human characters completely.

Kek. They're an integral part of the game, so that's not going to happen. The whole point is that this alien dragon God called Necrosan has sealed away the Dino-Gods, and certain human worshippers of the gods are given their powers in order to save the world from Necrosan. Plus, the super moves for the dinosaur characters involve the human avatars anyway, so that's not going to go away anytime soon.
Human characters have a huge advantage over dinos anyway, having a lot more priority with their attacks and having more moves in general. It feels like the cast of two different games glued together and it clashes pretty horribly, similar to Fighters Megamix in that way. The difference though is that Megamix didn't want to really be a competitive arcade fighter

Can anyone read this? I almost can.
It explains some character info and moves for the game.
This is the best image available of the paper unfortunately.

Perhaps they were indeed experimenting at this stage. In terms of appeal, I think in the final game a split roster with some all new dinosaurs and humans would have worked, perhaps having the dinos ones from the first game kept as special moves for the humans.

After looking at how it works, I'm thinking they might have been planning for an unlock system, where if someone beat it with a certain character, it'd unlock the dino form, then when beaten with both, the hybrid form.

Just use this website instead:

It has all the move lists.
Also, here's the special emulator and the roms bundled together in case anyone still wants/needs it:

From what I've seen, the Dino-Gods which correspond to each character will eventually appear if you lose enough times with their avatar, which I thought was pretty neat. It's really up in the air how they would have handled it in the final version though, though I suppose it would have been other cheat codes or time-release.

Kenner?
They destroyed the original stop-motion models to make prototypes for action figures that got released as Batman creatures.
It was a...special time.

Where can I get a list of all the games that are made playable in each new version of MAME?
