Is this the closest retro game to Dark Souls?

Demon's Souls reminded me of ALttP and SotN.
>>3796697
It plays absolutely nothing like it though.

Yeah, it doesn't need faggy ass lock-on camera or shit dodgeroll mechanics.
>>3796697
No. Plus, it's garbage. If you really want a good Berserk game, then go for the PS2 one.

Faxanadu
This one is compared often to Souls since it features pretty similar combat
No, retro Dark Souls is Kings Field.

I'd say Shadow Tower more so, particularly in atmosphere. Shadow Tower is essentially a KF spin off and they're both by the same company so I guess it doesn't matter.

Get out. There's a ff7 thread for homos like you.

King's Field is so slow it barely qualifies as an action game. It was playtested by turtles.

Not him but SotB was pretty shit.
It just happens to be a different kind of shit from DS.
>>3797152
So is Dark Souls.

The combat in Severance is FAR superior to DS though. Atmosphere and level design is inferior, but the combat is superior to anything that has came out ever since.

How so? Never played it.

Much more various moves available from get go, and more combos as you progress, including weapon-specific super attacks. Coupled with ability to injure and dismember live enemies, can lead to many tactical opportunities like disarming an enemy by chopping off its arms, instant kill via well-timed decapitation, or something hillarious like chopping all 4 limbs and a head off a zombie before it falls to the ground (easy to do with Barbarian and 2H sword).
Much better and more precise collision detection, that also makes combat more tactical - enemy shield position and way he guards himself with shield/weapon is important since you can use specific directional attacks to bypass his defense, or trick him into specifically defending in one way while you attack in another one.
That collision detection also works both ways - for instance if you stand close to a wall in a specific way, and do an overhead attack with a large weapon like 2H sword or axe, you can chop off your own head when it bouncess off a wal (easiest to perform with a Dwarf - almost any attempt to use large weapon in a narrow corridor ends with him hurting himself).
Also some neat stuff like ability to take arrows to your shield, then plucking them out for later use (or out of your own body if you are bad at blocking), or even ability to catch them off the air if you are fast enouhg. Ability to use envionmental objects and chopped off enemy limbs against them in combat (rarely useful, but you can send enemy flying off a cliff if you throw shit at him so he stumbles back).
Also almost ay action except some special moves can be stopped by block/dodge which makes much more sense than DS's clunky unrealistic shit.
Overall, combat, while using the same concept of tactical useage of moves, timing and learning your opponent, does so much better and ends up being much more fun.
