Hey guys. I have a problem with my famicom...just finished the mod, but getting jail bars and colour bleeding. Any tips?
Av mod, forgot to include that.

Some pics.
1/2
you should've got an AV Famicom
>>3794389
Yeah. I know.
What happened to the repair thread?
Not sure what I did, but something worked. Still have those fucking jail bars though

Did you keep the RF modulator hooked up as well?
>>3794373
Did you put any shielding on the PPU? That's part of the mod you know
>>3794517
He didn't even isolate pin 21.
if he still has the RF hooked up (which it looks like) and he doesn't want to cut the pin on the PPU he could remove this component. It would disable RF output though.

Don't cut it, remove it. its 3 pins
>>3794545
Got it
>>3794546
basically you have 2 amps hooked up to the same circuit. It still might have slight jail bars because the "noise' is coming from a trace near pin 21.
>>3794549
Yes...well, that's a buzzkill. So I would have to isolate pin 21 regardless
>>3794560
You won't ever get a crystal clear picture, just try it the way you have it now remove that one component and see
>>3794564
Lovely. May not be the best presentation, considering it's on an early 2000s flatscreen samsung hd crt but maybe it'll be less noticeable on the PVM.
Thank you for the help, m8.
>>3794564
Btw, does this also occur on the famicom av?
>>3794571
Ah the eternal crapshoot. Well, I removed the little bugger...going to fix it all up and test it. Testes crossed.
Well then. I'm done. Three hours well spent, about 15% progress.
I'm just going to reduce the sharpness until the PVM arrives. Thanks for all the help. Cheers

Very slightly. I found on some forum posts adding an 820uF capacitor between pin 20 and pin 40 of the ppu would eliminate the jail bars but I'm not sure. This issue seems to vary based on the motherboard revision
>>3794431
Why do you care about jailbars when youre using such a low tier consumer brand CRT model.
>>3795441
Exactly. I agree with you.
Basically just preparation for when my pvm comes in.
I've tried a bunch of the different capacitor fixes for jailbars. This one worked the best for me. They're both "105" caps. Ceramic 1uf. I lost the forum link I got this from, but it the voltage pin on the CPU to ground and the pin next to video on the PPU to ground. Jailbars are a lot more subtle than the electrolytic cap mods I've tried.

Its better to cut the trace. If you pull the transistor out, the trace is still acting like a tiny antenna and picking up noise from the trace next to it.

Oh, based anon. First reply in the thread and you already predicted the future.
This is OP. I wrecked the mod; broke pin 21 and burned the contact on the pcb completely. So, I decided to buy an av famicom and all is well...I spliced the controller with a NES extension cable; it works like a charm.
Now just working on connecting a barrel jack to the mic on the second controller, then splicing that controller with an extension cord as well...it'll take a bit more effort. Thanks for the tips mentlegen.
