Cotton 2 vs Cotton Boomerang

Boomerang because it is more straightforward, looks way better, has lots of unlockables, has more type of attacks (you can cast dragons nonstop if you know how), and because it comes in a standard CD case and not the medium thick one which is impossible to find replacements for.

No, it doesn't. It uses a medium case. It's like the standard jewel case but 1-2mm thicker, so you can fit larger manuals in them - Cotton 2 used it for a calendar.

The difference is subtle but it's big enough that you can't use standard cases as replacements. I've never found any places that offer replacement cases either, so if you got a crack on your $100 copy of Cotton 2, the only thing you can do is buy some cheap junk title that used the same type of case and use it as a replacement (Super Robot Taisen F is a good candidate).

Boomerang is a flat out improvement, but I think both games are worth playing. 2 still holds up because of the different levels and boss behaviors, plus grab is still an awesome mechanic. In Boomerang everything great is pushed to 11 and it's such an incredible game. It's a cute 'em up that will leave you floored with how good it is.

What are some other great saturn shooters? Gimme 'em all that aren't radiant silvergun.

Laserdisk uses completely different data layers, and has a far larger surface area.

For CDs, it is much less likely to happen, as long as there are no manufacturing defects, like small oxygen bubbles stuck under the reflective area, that end up eating the layer.

Sega CD discs are actually susceptible to this, but Saturn discs are much less so.

There are CDs from the 80s that still don't have disk rot, it only happens on defective CD batches. And for he LD ones, it depends on who's the manufacturer, which year did they manufacture it etc, I have some 1985 LDs with 0 rot while some people have late 90s LD with horrible rot.
