Wizard Wars was my jam, along with ARG: Pirates Strike Back.

I still play Master Sword occasionally by myself on the deserted servers but I'm at a point in the progression where most of the maps my level are too bugged to complete.

Counter Strike and They Hunger

I got this on steam and it's shit. What's the last version that had gl_overbright and directsound3d?

Best SP mods:
>USS Darkstar
Superb mapping, especially considering when it was released, and has a great "rats map" section. Only major flaw is that you fight only aliens, so combat stays pretty easy.

>They Hunger
Might not seem special now since we have so many zombie FPSes, but Part 2 is still great.

>Half-Life: Invasion
Best features and scripted events of any SP mod. Vicious enemies so either savescum or lower the difficulty, especially at the start.

>Sweet Half-Life
Wacky and sometimes janky, but has tons of action-packed sequences, a branching ending, and an amazing boss battle.

Straightforward but looks great and is well-done all around.

Worth playing for the bizarre/surreal environments later on.

Gets repetitive, level design can be so-so, but decently written and worth playing for the novelty of playing as a vortigaunt.

Vietnam meets Resident Evil. I think this mod is fantastic but it's a love-or-hate thing. It's really goofy and jokey, can be buggy occasionally, and has some HUGE sprawling, twisty maps that you have to explore every inch of to collect the required items and find out where you're supposed to go. Also, it has an AI buddy that you have to escort quite a bit (it's usually better to ditch them at the start of a map and come back once you've cleared everything out, though). I still think it's awesome for being so big and ambitious, with great weapons (love that M79) and surprisingly good atmosphere considering how tongue-in-cheek it is. And I like that it doesn't hold you hand at all.

i recall getting the generations pack when i was younger, and im 99% sure it came with some mods on it, such as the SP mod where one level is at a circus.

am i imagining this? or did games actually come with mods back then?

that's Half-Life: Redemption, aka Absolute Redemption. And yeah, it was included as a pack-in (along with the Wanted! mod) with some releases of Counter-Strike, which itself was included with some releases of Half-Life Generation.

Had the best, smallest, most tight knit group of nerds I've ever known. And the best RP before TS came out.

Good old CS 1.6, with de_dust2, de aztec, de_nuke, de_inferno, fy_pool_day, aim_headshot and awp_india.

These were responsible for 5% of my teenagehood.

I had lots of good memories from good times with friends long gone. In hindsight though, I wish I had taken a more serious interest in moding and subsequently programming when I still had a fresh mind.

Anyone remember Hostile Intent? Rainbow Six clone for Goldsource. No crosshair, must draw aim to shoot. Some jungle maps and a mansion map in particular.
