Felt a bit nostalgic for PS1 and PS2 games, so I bought a Matrix modchipped SCPH-9000x, but it won't play burnt PS1 games, even when forcing PS1 mode.
Why won't they work? Is there something that needs to be done before playing them?

Yes, get a modchipped PS1.
>Matrix Infinity has a "SX" point which must be connected in order to enable PS1 mode. If not, only a black screen will appear. In some clones SX point can be named as "S".

you should have knew this. Is common knowledge. All modchipped PS2 consoles lose the ability to play PS1 games. Your only choice is use POPSTARTER. Or get an PS2 without modchip and use original PS1 games.

The thing is, I won't even get to a black screen. The PS2 fail miserably and says it couldn't recognise the disc. When I force PS1 mode it says I should insert a valid PS2 or PS1 game.
I'll try and see if this SX port is properly connected.

Fug, I didn't know that. Then I suppose, if the above doesn't work, the only solution is to buy a modded PS1 instead.

Just opened my PS2 and saw that the guy who installed the modchip haven't soldered the SY ports.
Do you know where should I solder it to?

My modded 90006 plays PS1, did I meme it to life?

prove it

I softmod fats but my very quick research indicates these are the solder points and that even if you destroy the cap on the board attempting to solder it it will still work, just with the minor drawback of even retail PS1 games no longer booting if you removed the chip (so I guess no softmods either) but you'll probably never do that.

I just quit being a lazy fatass and searched for it as well and found the exact MOBO version with the exact same ship, so there's no doubt where I should solder them.
Next week I'll buy some cables and weld those motherfuckers in their appropriate spots.
I appreciate your help. Thank you.
If this doesn't work, you can buy a freemcboot memory card on eBay for $10 and use PSX LAUNCHER. basically it makes the swap trick dead easy. You boot up with a genuine disk, the disk stops, you put in your burned disk, then press X and it launches.
If you set freemcboot to boot from slot 2 you can just leave your ps1 card in slot one.

The only problem is that my PS2 is on SPCH-9000x. In that revision they removed the upgrade-by-memory card feature that this exploit uses to work.

Well, my ps2 matrix could play pirate CDs and DVDs just fine.
You are burning them on a CD right?

I dunno about modchips, but:
Slim PS2 you can softmod with FreeMCBoot and use a homebrew app to swap a legit ps1 disc with a burned game. Just need to tape down the lid sensor.
Fat PS2 with freemcboot can't do it, its a slim exploit.
>>3781935
OP already explained he has a v2.3+ bios that has the softmod exploit feature removed.>not having a fat ps2 you can do disc swaps with
>>3781935
fat ps2 can, you just need a different method of swapping the disc since the lid sensor isn't in an obvious position like on the slim.

Their eject button is also the "sensor" if you will. You just have to get the disc out without pressing it. Back in the day I just hotwired the tray motor to a little box with a 9v battery in it. Some dude figured out a cheap way to produce those "key" things you could slide in under the door and force the gears but the fliptop case is definitely the best option. Those eject motors are all starting to give out on front loading consoles.

I never managed to get psxlauncher.elf working. Bought a game from ebay to launch with, burned iso's from the same region, no matter what I only ever got a black screen.
So I ended up buying a fat, a network adapter and a hdd, works pretty well but some games I really want to play on it don't seem to work.
Best solution at this point looks like getting a modchipped ps1.

There is a fraction of games that are incompatible with even fat PS2s. Really Jetmoto 2, Monkey Hero and Fighter Maker are the only ones that are unplayable that aren't just emulated games already.

You can do it with a fat if you get a flip top case mod. I got one about 10 years ago.

They're all but impossible to find now though.
