What's the best Namco franchise: Soul Edge-Calibur, or Tekken?

The question isn't about Dead or Alive.
The Pac

Soul Calibur used to be great until it went full cameo embracement. SCII's cameos made sense and worked. Then they started throwing Darth Vader and Original the Character at us. Plot wise the game worked right until 4 when their trademark villain just disappeared. There's only so much you can do with a "two forces that have clashed over eons" plot. I still like smacking people with Nerf brand axes far more than random fighting styles that all look the same.

Does the plot really matter, anyway?

It's kind of the only reason to keep buying fighting game sequels.

I'd say the main reasons would be:
>playing online with the latest console
>gameplay improvements
>new characters and new moves
>better graphics and music
>brand loyalty

And now that they merged...Super Robot Wars

>gameplay improvements
>new characters and new moves
>better graphics and music
None of those have really been true for the past decade or so.

I feel like for SC it did. It allowed them to do stuff like in SC3 and make the series stand out from the usual "here's a bunch of fighters and there's a tournament."

I have stopped playing bideo games in 2001, so that was a wild guess.
