is there any super metroid/metroid rom hacks with new powerups instead of new maps? also any games with new powerups? i have a super mario world where you get a hammer bros powerup but i don't remember what it is.

I don't think there are any hacks that effect power ups or basic gameplay. Just new levels.

Redesign made wall jump in to power up.
Also had a new tile that redirected bullets, but power bombs would make the game crash if you used them on it.
