How do people manage to take such poor care of their games?

This photo made me wince

Really? WinCE?
Fuck it made me Windows 3.11 for Workgroups with himem.sys disabled in config.sys and SET BLASTER= A220 I7 D1 T2 when the device was actually type 1!

By conceiving of them as dumb distractions, rather than some mystical spiritual retreat.

Looks in pretty good condition for a toy owned by a fat slob burgerican.

That just looks like it was owned by a smoker.
>buy lot of NES games years ago
>they look like they were stored in a barn
>wiping them down with a cloth and rubbing alcohol, cloth gets dirty almost immediately
>one of the carts has fucking cobwebs in the contacts
That was the moment I realized eBay was garbage.
Obligatory

Simpler times
In my experience?
It's sharing a living space with someone who has no respect for other people's property.
I'd probably still have a retro collection if I didn't have a brother that just kicked things around the room, and had a clothes pile sitting in the corner until maggots infested it.
I was watching that hoarders show on tv and it featured some 20 year old. When they were cleaning his home under a pile of trash was a cracked star ocean for the ps1 and I got so pissed at this filthy fuck.
>look through my old drawers and find my n64 games
>left a couple ps2 controllers lying next to them
>analog sticks started emitted a sticky goo
>got all over a bunch of n64 games

Was the CD cracked or the CD case?
CD case can be fixed by gently replacing with any music CD case.

Rub talcum/baby powder into the analog sticks to neutralize the stickyness.
Use goo gone to clean the carts.

I love this stuff. It works great to remove all the old stickers that game shops and rental stores used to plaster all over the games especially those awful silver hologram ones.
I'm always surprised when people don't bother cleaning their games before selling them. In my experience most collectors on Ebay and the like tend to be very picky about the condition of the games and just a little bit of cleaning up can make it easier to sell.
>mfw seeing carts with a giant sticker slapped over the original label
Hell, even a small sticker brings my piss to a boil.

Because it's a shit game and no one gives a fuck.

I've actually had this happen with a 3rd party PC controller a few years ago. It was in a bin of stuff for a few years and somehow it got really weird like melted plastic sticky goo all over it. Sad to say but I actually just threw it in a paper bag and kept in but I haven't seen it in a few years now.

I've sold any of my video game stuff going back to the 80's, my sister did take our SNES and top loader to college with all of our games and lost them. Which I'm still angry about 16 years later but anyway I'm thinking of selling a bunch of my collection now since the prices are crazy high right now. I have my original NES, 2 others that I had for so long I don't even remember how I got them or who left them at my house and one in the box. And my health isn't very good, well it's never been good since 1991 but it has gotten alot worse now and I feel like I should start to declutter things in my life so I don't have so much to deal with and to leave behind when I'm gone.
i'm just rambling now because I'm on so much pain medication but I'm gonna start to sell it off but I heard ebay takes 20% so that sucks. I just put some stuff on craigslist but all i got were a few people trying to buy bits & pieces instead of the whole lot, which is probably the way I'm gonna have to do it since my local retro flea market guy is WAY too fuckin cheap.
