Post games that come as close to perfection as possible.

ALTTP is the only /vr/ game I can think of, aside from the graphics being pretty ugly, I have n complaints about ALTTP, but I could think of loads of other complaints about other /vr/ games.
I do thoroughly enjoy ALTTP, but playing it the other day, I can't understand how they didn't implement switching between items with the L and R buttons. They go completely unused.
Also, in the very few times you actually have to swim, it's pretty tedious how bumping into a wall stops any momentum you had.
And it seems a bit like poor game design having huge arrows on the map telling you where to go. Just outside the first Dark World dungeon for example.
I'm also tempted to say Tetris for the GB.
>>3772164
show us your near perfect retro then
My only complaint: there isn't enough music.
>>3772197Did you miss the benefits that stereo can provide, anon?
weapon hot-swapping would have been glorious. if crafting wasn't your thing then you were menuing in nearly every room, and repeated load times became a drag. map hot-swapping to l3/r3 and it's streamlined.
>>3772197
but what music there is, mmm...
>>3772128
Fuck man, they really tried to hype the 3D meme with this game. At least SM64 was classy about it and didn't have a 5 minute unskipable intro sequence
Argue versions all you want, Tetris is pretty much a perfect game.
>>3772425
Agreed, and the only other versions I like other than GB are Tengen on the NES and New Tetris on the 64.
Tetris Attack might be the red-headed step-child of Tetris, but it stands on it's own as a remarkable 10/10 puzzle game. Both are great.
>>3772312
If they just could have nailed down good camera controls and removed all of those red coin and 100 coin stars, it would be golden.
>>3772432
You know you only need 70 out of the 120 stars in the game to beat it... Exactly so babies like you wouldn't cry about a few of the stars being rather difficult to collect.. Because we all know if they took out the hard to collect stars people would then be bitching that it was too easy...
>>3772474
there's nothing hard about collecting coins, it's just boring
>>3772487
Not necessarily. Depends entirely on if some coins were challenging, hence fun, to collect.
>>3772503
Sometimes it's cool to check out the level in closer detail than you would otherwise. Little japanese men put a lot of work into their games, I'm sure some were proud.
Step aside poseurs, perfection coming through.

>>3772259
Oh fuck that game is FAR, far from perfect. It's such a hot mess of a game.
>>3772427
It wasn't tetris at all. It was panel de pon. This is how bad nintendo censoring used to be. Another example of horrible censors was Street Combat, but that game was ass in both regions.

Usually I'd say Doom, but replaying this lately I realize the truth. Doom's design and engine are a bit tighter, but the level design in Douk holds up all the way through, a rarity for the shareware era.

Alundra 2 has pretty much nothing to do with 1.
>>3774068

no, it's fucking piss slow and boring.
>>3774054
I literally hate every Yoshi game after Yoshi's Island because they try to dumb them down for kids and forget about the fantastic gameplay, level design, and handling that YI has.
Fuck at this point I would be better off just making my own sequel because Nintendo will never attempt to make one that isn't for toddlers.
>>3774546
But it's the only Metal Slug which has that serious-but-funny WWII mood vibe. The sequels are great too, but the first one its probably the more unique of the saga.
Btw, my choice.
Star Control 2?
>>3775241
Agree, although I would say Yoshi's Island DS was a very fun and competent game. Yes, the original it's unbeatable, but I found the DS game a bit underrated.
>>3775265
I haven't extensively played Yoshi's Island DS, although I will say that it does seem to be more focused on the original than any of the other Yoshi games. Yoshi's New Island was absolute shit though
>>3775268
It was probably the less insulting sequel of the game. At least they tried to add some freshness to the concept with the different babies or the dual screen. Also, not horrible render graphics or lame wool.
h-hi!
>>3775474
This right here. It's everything that is retro.
>>3775260
Oh shit, I just played this the other night for shits and giggles and it's actually a great game. I never gave it any credit because it's just so weird, but that's what gives it the charm. Every level makes you laugh and go, "wtf???" and it's always throwing a new challenge at you.
>>3773925
thats funny. i had s.o.r. 2 and my neighbor would always come by and we'd play the shit out of it. your name wouldn't be paul by any chance would it?
>>3775474
Great answer.
>>3774073
I'm with you man. I love doom. but duke definitely brought some awesome level design in. specially with the inclusion of a function vertical aspect.
>>3775775
Duke got better reviews than Quake at time of release because it was a fun, colorful, shooter full of irony and dirty humour and a wisecrack "though guy" parody protagonist, while Quake before Quakeworld was basically a tech demo where you just shot brown demons in brown corridors without a story, humor or really anything. Quake would also have to run in 320x200 to be playable on the typical machine while Duke handled 640x480 very well and even 800x600 on a Pentium 133 reasonably.
My contribution
> despite the bugs in it
> graphics were 3x better than ufo
>>3772131
im just glad it didnt have a goddamn forest maze like the original did
granted the forest was kinda a maze, but it was at least a standard maze that was physically mappable (rather than one you could literally keep going forever in one direction with)
It was a great game and I didnt mind the graphics, for the time. But the fireballs shouldnt have looked like pink jello, they should have looked like FIRE or electrified bullshit like the original.
> and somebody needs to hack the swordbeam to look like a sword, not a swirly thing thats hard to hit stuff with
>>3772523
Meh I love SOTN but its got alot of Bloat to it.
A huge number of items without being able to get rid of them. Same with the health items (what if I just wanted to see pot roasts? potions were acceptable too).
Also I was expecting to find a Whip at some point as the ultimate weapon, and instead he only gets swords and other crap that doesnt belong.
> if you say richter has the whip, then I will say richter cant even fucking use the inventory
Far from perfect, but I still loved it, most of its music, and definitely its fight mechanics.
> final fight with dracula was forgettable though, generally out of place, he should have been Dracula on steroids instead of a big flying sofa that does bloat damage.

I never actually beat Duke3d either, a combination of zelda-tier puzzles in some cases as well as biting off more than I can chew from the difficulty. I beat it when I got the cheat codes but otherwise...
> Duke3d baddies are no joke, only the crafty application of archviles and revenants in doom megawads matched it. At least tripwires and multiple pipe bombs were a useful counter.
> also the flying fatso things have a game bug, if you shoot devastator rockets at them they get pushed in your direction somehow at a high velocity - guess what I always wanted to use against them.

I feel like your criticisms are all based on the current state of gaming and looking back.

How would switching items with L and R be less cumbersome? There's, like, 20 items in that game. Scrolling through them all would be ridiculous.
It would change the game significantly, but being able to map two more items to L and R, Ocarina style, sounds better.
The AI sucked, but the game was still supremely enjoyable.

>dat level scaling atempt that fails miserably since you can easily 2 shot the last boss's final form at the highest settings
>dose boring sidequests
>the complete uselesness of the magic system outside of curing and reviving and some very specific one time requirements(vit0 on hi-def bosses)

>>3779749

Here to shill my fav
The music is god tier comfy albeit gets annoying after 3 strait house of listening to it
>>3774025
I started playing this for the first time a couple years ago after seeing it as a recommended PSX game comparable to Zelda. It has some of the worse perspective and platforming elements I've ever seen, and that's nearly all you do throughout the game.
>>3774054
I hated YI DS when I played it but I had a hard time articulating why because it was so superficially similar to the first game which I love. Like the music sucked obviously but the rest of the game looked and felt just like the SNES game. I think I decided that it was basically just the terrible level design that ruined the game for me, but I don't remember what exactly it was about the levels I didn't like, on top of the absurd difficulty spike in the last world that had me burn through like 70 lives (although i had a 103 degree fever at the time).
New Island is slightly better but only because its so mediocre and unremarkable. Every level is basically just an obstacle free race to the exit if you don't care about the collectibles, which I don't because they don't do anything to help you win or change the ending. I think the original has this problem too but to a lesser extent. Also I was baffled that yoshi takes like half a second to prepare an egg to throw if you are standing still, but if you press Y while moving or jumping its instantaneous. The game was so easy that it barely made a difference to me, and its kind of a nitpick because of how easy it is to mitigate, but I was just shocked at how careless they were to have that obviously terrible control quirk in the game. Basically it was a mostly painless but mostly joyless experience.
Before this turns into more of a blogpost I'm curious if any of you can articulate better than me why exactly YI DS was so shit.

If white is setting the white king on that square, it's a draw - the black king is not under check, but it has no valid moves. (Provided of course there are no other black pieces on the table.)
If the while is moving the king from that square, only the 4th row from the observer avoids a stalemate. If black plays perfectly and white has no other pieces, it's a stalemate (you can't checkmate with knight+king alone)

Does ALBW have all the new races?

You need to be 18 to post here leave

It's pretty much the same races, just with more actual characters.

So just zoras and other randoms.

Not sure what you mean. You don't think ALTTP is better than ALBW? Or do you mean vice versa or something else?
I think ALBW could have been the better game if they'd just let you buy the items from the get go instead of taking them away upon a game over.

No, the only races you get are hylians, the dwarven blacksmiths, and the zoras, who still look like creature of the black lagoon tributes instead of alien greys with fish tails on the back of their heads.
There is one man with a very strong resemblance to a Goron though, and i'm sure it's on purpose.

I mean that ALLTP strikes me as only just slightly better than ALBW. Only thing that I would have wanted to make it better are dungeons that required more than one item to solve puzzles.
But honestly it was a pretty enjoyable remake(""sequel"").

Outrun is great, but Outrunners the sequel to Outrun had those 4 original comfy Outrun tracks untouched as well as 8 new ones (9 with the secret button push one). They are also all selectable via the radio track list select buttons on the cabinet.
Add that to also 8 selectable unique cars (9 with a secret code for a SEGA Virtua Formula), mutliple endings and you got the perfect game
Also had 1 on 1 racing or in the race case, the 8 people cabinets.
