That's what you get for being a penniless jew back when the good stuff came out.

Even as a child, I always managed to save enough to get what I wanted.

So a Genesis owner, then?

2020 probably

A single-system peasant. Patricians owned both systems because there were good games for both of them.

I've given up on collecting entirely and have come to terms with the fact that it'll only get worse. I really only care about accuracy in emulation improving further and SNES flash carts getting 100% compatability or something close to it.

As soon as we want, if we want.

When will the bubble expand to include cartridge-only in used-but-acceptable condition?

nice try, GABEN
>>
It's funny.

If I had listened to my parents, I would have saved my money and probably have a few extra grand in the bank that would have quickly been pissed away on my insurance anyway.

I'm actually grateful I recklessly spent money pursuing a retro game collection in 2004.

Don't know how a 20-something would even start collecting now. Even the fifth gen stuff is over priced.
>>
>>3770553
>I wasn't alive in 1994

The game had no value until around 2006. Even then, you could pick up the GBA port pretty cheaply and that would be a neat item today.

People bashed that port when it came out because no one appreciated retro gaming.

How much will my mint condition, factory sealed Steam digital downloads be worth in 25 years?

I had my Super Nintendo and N64 collection from growing up, but didn't really get into retro collecting until I got my first "adult" job in 2005, back when I could walk into a used record or games store and walk out with copies of Power Blade 2 and Zombie Nation for the price of lunch that day.

I was looking through old receipts and found that I paid $22 for Metal Storm inbox, insane.

When a limited non-renewing resource that degrades over time is no longer sought after by young adults coming into disposable income for the first time in their lives desperately trying to reconnect with their childhood as they fear the march towards inevitable doom :D
>>
>>3770208
>When will the bubble expand to include cartridge-only in used-but-acceptable condition?
It already did?
How else do you explain mmx2s with no labels selling for 100 dollars
>>
>>3770738
That's the thing, "nostalgia fags" aren't even the reason of this. People who want to relive their childhood just get the system they had and a couple games, not even the most obscure ones since they probably don't have nostalgia for those.
The problem are all the other people who picked up an interest in retro games and started collecting older games just because they liked them (or like to collect them), not necessarily nostalgia or wanting to relive their childhoods.
Many collectors now who are in their early 20s didn't even grow up with the systems /vr/ covers.
Compared to all the newcomers who start collecting now and want all the cool systems and games, the oldfags who probably still own their games and systems from childhood aren't really a big playing factor at all.
>>
>>3771484
This is true. Once the Switch proves that modern gaming is not shit and in fact better than retro games, ONCE AND FOR ALL, the hipsters and normies will leave retro games behind forever.
>>
>>3770208
When poorfag bandwagon collectors stop asking when it will.

>>3770253
No they owned several systems including the neo geo.

>>3770553
Then if daddy didn't save his childhood toys you're fucked.
>>
>>3771529
I am looking forward to the Switch. Too bad I'll have to wait a year and a half to get one thanks to limited supply and scalpers.
>>
>>3770657
Even 6th gen is starting to succumb to it

Gamecube and dreamcast games have shot up over the last couple of years.

Even some xbox games are starting to go up in price like jet set radio future

PS2 has nothing to really worry about though since there are 150million of those fuckers floating about and a billion games to go with it

All GBA ports of SNES games suck because of the screen resolution.
>>
>>3771529
Worst bait of the day. 0/10
>>
>>3772239
And the color palettes.
And the butchered music.
>>
>>3772248
The colour scheme I think is forgiven because of the dark, non-lit scrren of the GBA, but the music I agree.
>>
>>3772248
>>3772256
Color palettes can be fixed.

SNES ports of NES games such as SMB3 and SMB2 sound just as good on the GBA because of the simpler music.
>>
>>3770653
What? This has nothing to do with Gabriel Night or whatnot! Though with new, convenient machines capable of playing GN3 perfectly, we would have an excellent retro gaming platform!

>>
Wasn't there an old rumour that we're even killing Japan's retro market because we keep buying up all their carts in Yahoo auctions and they permanently leave their relatively tiny pool of total physical games?
>>
>>3772653
I'd even go and say that's a fact that's happening right here, right now. Not sure if the japs will care as much about it but if westerners keep importing that shit it will definitely bring out the same jealousy that is present now in the western market.
>>
>>3772670
It definitely is. Most of the famicom games that are cheap compared to their NES counterparts have doubled in price just over the last year or two.
>>
>>3770364
As time goes on I'm getting pretty close to this. Collecting isn't getting any easier and prices are only getting higher. I'm not prepared to pay premium for games like Beauty and The Beast Board Game Adventure let alone actual rare titles.
>>
Those are collectibles, not essential need items.
Therefore there is no bubble to be popped.

Ask any collector of coca-cola or car memorabilia.

Most games cost a lot less than what I had to pay back in the day.
>>
>>3770208

The remainder of my want list encompasses around ~20 games spread across a couple systems, and most of them are in the $10-$20 range. Feels good.

I weep for those who want complete collections of a systems library
>>
>>3770208
It wont.
>>
>>3774918
The hell kind of a seal is that?
Did the store accept a returned game and reseal it half-assed?
>>
>>3774918
This isn't true at all. Other than maybe 10 or so games, unopened/new retro games cost a hell of a lot more than new games at release. Hell, even mint opened CIB games generally cost 10x+ what a new game used to cost.

If you mean cart only high run and/or unpopular games, when compared to a new one at release, then you have a point. But hardly a fair comparison.

Okay, admittedly I have not purchased unopened/new retro games as I figure they would get pricey due to rarity. Megaman X I know is in that PS2 collection which I recently bought for around $10 still new from amazon.com. Yeah, I meant how you can get a lot of game digitally now like Virtual Console for much less than the cost in their day. There's that Megaman collection on every system which has all 6 NES games and I remember 2 alone costing $69.99 from Toys R' Us back in the day. You are right that it may vary from game to game, as some can cost less like sports titles, and some are worth a lot like Little Samson. However, I do mean, overall, games are less expensive now as there are plenty of options.

Too bad every single original xbox is a fucking ticking time bomb. I forget what it is but I think it's some battery inside the xbox that can leak battery acid all over the mb since it's getting to be that age now. It's the only thing from keeping me from getting an original xbox.

I have never bought a game online, now granted most of my collections were gathered up back in the day but still. I am cheap as fuck and there is no way I'm paying these out of control prices today especially when there is emulating. Saying that I still find good deals around at thrift stores and flea markets like I got Felix the cat on NES for 2 bucks not too long ago along with a bunch other like popeye and kid Icarus for a dollar or 2. Some guy had a copy of Zelda 2 in a pile of old used car parts and didn't even know what it was so he told me to take it for free but I gave him a buck anyway for being cool about it.

My point is they are out there, you just have to apply yourself and go find the stuff.
>>
>>3774986

Your image would be a counterpoint if you showed some "buy it now" auctions for the same prices. If a bid has only started then chances are very likely it will cost as much as the other option, sometimes even more.
