Well, there's nothing preventing you from emulating R-Type II and getting a proper experience of the game instead of a butchered port.

How are the ports of I and II on PS1? Arcade perfect?

Yes. The manual isn't anything special (because it's a western release lol) so don't feel bad about getting disc-only, imo.

I've yet to get past the second stage of R-Type 2. It is just too fucking hard. Wait, I think I got to the third stage once... I like the improved graphics and sandy-brown visuals that dominate though, as well as the super-charge shot (it's hard to pull it off well though).

I use the disc mostly for trying to get further in my 1CC attempts at R-Type. Don't ask me how that's going. x_x
