Why haven't you played this yet?

I tried, but I couldn't get past the second or third boss. I just can't wrangle the controls for some reason

I'm convinced that they intentionally made the story convoluted as a way to tell us to just play the damn game and forget about making sense.

It was the first game I beat after midnight to ring in the new year, OP. I eventually would like to do a no-damage run and ascend to Megadriverhood but I have too many other games to play right now.

Interesting game. From what I played, the movement mechanics seem to have a lot of depth, especially given the Mega Drive's control layout. I think it stands out among the other Treasure games in this regard.

Any other games that have a similar feel?

Not retro but try Astro Boy Omega Factor.

It's dash mechanics reminded me of AS a bit. It gets better as you upgrade your stats so you can dash more times. Dashing mid-air consecutively feels really good.

because it's boring and it's not. it's got a shit ton of boring dead zones in it, the scoring mechanics are awful, and polarity shielding is one of the worst STG gimmicks. Worse than bullet scraping, worse than reflect force, worse than bombs even. it's just distracting from the actual fun of rhythm and spatial coordination.

But I did over ten years ago, and fell in love. Underrated game.
