OPs controller is objectively an abomination but I have no problem with modding controllers in principal. In fact the concept of a nights 3d controller is great it's just a shit implementation in this case. Same things for LEDs. If someone wants to rice up their controllers that's up to them. As long as they don't look objectively shit then it's just a matter of taste.
There are also technical reasons to mod a controller. Adding an LED is a quick easy way to measure the overall lag of a setup. Many controllers don't have auto fire. Modding for wireless is an excellent reason.
Many people can't simply accept the design and color choices of the console because they don't have the tism.
