Well?
Rondo
/thread
>>3751947
I like both. If you want to complain about Castlevania's artwork, start with Dawn of Sorrow.
>>3751950
Rondo had an animu style
desu OP answered his own question. Symphony was the first game that had that style.
When they decided to stop ripping off Dungeons & Dragons.
>>3751957
Still better than copying pretty much any manga ever
>>3751963
Havent read any vampire manga
i find it fascinating how upset you are over a japanese game adopting japanese tropes
what are you playing jap games for in the first place anyway?
>>3751947
When based as fuck Igasan took over.

> Castlevania 1: now this is a good ol' 'murican game for true 'muricans and truly inspired by true 'murican movies
>SotN: wow I see 2 nukes wasn't enough. what the fuck is this faggot shit making our children faggots. I demand all sales of this sacrilege to be ceased in 'murica and all the people who go to church with me will sign a petition so fuck you faggot chinks from Konami for ruining a good 'murican game
>>3751947
All things change. Get over it.
Bela Lugosi Dracula is anything but scary.
Nosferatu Dracula from silent film era, sure. Bela?
>BLAH BLAHHHH I VANT TO SUCK YOUR DIIICCCCKKKKK
get the fuck outta here
>>3751957
I miss the days when Konami used to ripoff movie posters for their flyer art.
>"style"
Castlevania has been gothic in atmosphere since the second game.
>>3751963
Which manga is the SOTN cover aping off to be precise?
>>3751995
That ones so obvious I have a hard time believing it wasn't intentional.
>>3752030
I'm convinced it's the same artist who made the Metal Gear 1 boxart. It's not Bob Wakelin though.
Old Castlevania art was pretty anime.
>>3752285
Only if you lived in Japan.
>>3752289
Isn't this art japanese too? And Castlevania is a japanese game.
>>3752285
>mfw humanities hero is some twink with a whip
>>3752297
Don't be too smug drac, you lose to said twink and his relatives every few generations.
>There are people who don't like Ayami Kojima's art
The plebbiest of plebs
>>3752303
She is awful at proportions and bishounen is objectively worst art style.
>>3751947
Ayami Kojima's art is great though.
>>3751947
When it was just one game, I could deal with it. SotN was and remains fun to play.
It started to get out of hand with Chronicles, if you ask me. But that didn't sell well, and CotM was anime but not overtly bishoujo. Unfortunately everything that came after was though, whether is was console or handheld.
Anyway, Ayami Kojima's art may be all style and no substance, but Michiru Yamane's music is fucking fantastic.
You chumps need to get back to your roots.
The art of SoTN is far more evocative of the romance and Gothic darkness surrounding Stoker than OP's plasticine shlock-horror fetish ever could be. Must be bait.
>>3751947
>western art style
Thats jap style though. and Yeah I know frazetta.
>>3751951
Circle of the Moon actually.
Whoever did the western IV cover is probably my favorite vidya cover artist. Seems like the same guy did the western covers of TMNT IV and Contra III, and they all look amazing.
>>3752305
>She is awful at proportions
Yeah, but the bishounen charaters are something the developers asked her to do. She draws what they want.
>>3751986
>nosferatu is scary
I hate this meme
>>3751986
>Not liking Lugosi-sama
Pleb.
>>3751947
>comparing Kojima's style to Twilight just because her characters are attractive
I hate whoever made that image.
>>3752305
>bishounen is objectively worst art style.
Do you feel threatened by having attractive men in your video games?
>>3751947
Bitch, please. Gothic stylings have been apart of the Dracula mythos since Bram Stoker. The only difference is that the characters were designed by a woman who likes pretty men. Pretty men who kill things. Lots of things.
>>3751947
If Ayami Kojima had been the artist for the original and then they had switched to a more western style you'd be like "fucking western appeal hollywood shit, Kojima's style was so elegant and classy and fitting for castlevania, everything is ruined now".
Dumb purists who'll bitch about anything that's changed from the original are unreasonable and not worth bothering with. There's some serious fallacies going on in your way of thinking.
>>3752502
Circle Of The Moon's art is the only reason I can't play it whatsoever.
>>3752909
You're a fucking retard, did you know that?
>>3752380
Man I would play this
>>3751995
I miss the days when Konami made video games.
>>3752291
>Castlevania is a japanese game.
No. Fuck you.
>>3753175
Are you some kind of reverse-weeaboo?
>>3753175
what? are you retarded? why it is not a japanese game?
>>3753175
Castlevania is a game of Japanese origin heavily inspired by Western culture.
>>3753534
Dude.
>>3751947
>Complaining about Kojima
This is b8
If you want to bitch a out artstyle, PoR is there for you.
>>3753637
desu the artstyle fit the more comedic tone of PoR quite well.
My complaints go to Dawn.
>>3751947
It's not western, it was never western. If you're seeing a Japanese game with "western" art you're a fucking retard. Artists with realistic artstyles very fucking much exist in Japan, even if they're not the most popular.
I know it's bait (I mean, why else you'd call Japanese artist "weeb"), but ironically, it's when Kojima took over the art duties things actually started looking closer to Dracula novel, and fitting thematically with concepts of european Romanticism, which is when gothic fiction was invented, together with vampire fiction (Vampyre, Dracula, Carmilla).
Pic related, this is example of a Romantic period painting. Which of the OP's pics better fits thematically with it? I will let you take a fucking guess.
So what happened REALLY, is that Castlevania dropped silent horror movie theme, and changed it to gothic horror fiction theme.
Sandman-style Castlevania was the best.
>>3753534
>hating weeaboos so much you try to retcon history
>>3751957
Simon "Mick" Belmont.
>>3752503
http://www.boxequalsart.com/tom-dubois-artist-page.html
I think this is who you're looking for.
>>3754439
That's right, thanks anon.
I love his energic, gritty style. Reminds me of action figure packages from the late 80s and early 90s, stuff like G.I. Joe, Aliens, etc.
Though he actually did some impressive works of art. I wouldn't mind hanging the Castlevania IV or Sunset Riders on my wall, they look amazing.
>>3751947
First 3 character concepts were based on Conan. SOTN had a female artist and a female composer behind it, hence the more feminine looks. I like it way better than Conan Belmont.
>>3751963
The entire castlevania series is a combination ripoff of bram stokers dracula and jojo's bizarre adventure
even still, copying he-man isn't any better than anything, he-man is gay af and I mean that literally
I'll take Kojima's extravagant, lavish romantic style over the original CV or Rondo art any day of the week.
What's up with the surge of this "anime weeb art" bait suddenly? Or has it always been a thing and I've been lucky enough to avoid such shittery?
>>3752305
I don't know it's like she never went to school for it or anything. Try doing art by yourself with no formal lessons. She got pretty far.
>>3755067
>jojo's bizarre adventure
Jojofags thinking everything was influenced by Jojo, as usual.
The only jojo "reference" was a mask in the library on SOTN, and even then might be just a coincidence, masks weren't invented by Jojo.
Although yeah, the first part of the manga has a sort of castlevania/dracula vibe because it's mostly a vampire story, however, Jojo started in 1987, Castlevania is from 1986.
If anything, Vampire Hunter D (1985) served as inspiration for Castlevania. It most definitely inspired Ayami Kojima for sure.
>>3755636
Jojo is just a gay(er) version of FotNS anyway.
>>3755626
whoops this was the pic
>>3755636
>The only jojo "reference" was a mask in the library on SOTN
Maria in Rondo has a stand that attacks like Star Platinum which can almost instakill any boss.

>Jojofags thinking everything was influenced by Jojo, as usual.

You forget that JoJo has been a major culture icon in Japan for a long time.
>>3752857
holding men to female standards of beauty isnt attractive flamer
>>3752853
has feminism cucked you so fucking hard you think looking like a fragile bitch is attractive?
>>3756883
I don't forget that, but sometimes Jojofags go overboard with that idea and see Jojo references when there aren't there.
>>3751947
I know it's ironic on this website but I fucking hate the anime art style. It's so limiting and uncreative. Characters are overdesigned and invariably effeminate - there is neither range nor subtlety. I can't count the number of game series ruined by this shift in art style. The same goes for films: it's a cultural embarrassment that Miyazaki is placed alongside Kurosawa. I cannot physically bring myself to take someone's tastes seriously if they consider anime a positive force in art. Its entire purpose is to allow people with no technical ability whatsoever to create apparently complex but generic designs en masse. It's hyper-commercialism masquerading as an art form; it's quite literally anti-art.
>>3751963
Faggot.
>>3757369
>I cannot physically bring myself to take someone's tastes seriously
I hate to break it to you, but no one gives a shit if you can't take someone else seriously. If you are incapable of understanding why Miyazaki is as well regarded as he is, that's your problem but acting like that makes you special is funny.
>>3757369
>anime has only one style.
wew, lad.
>>3757369
I can't tell the difference between manga artists, but please take me seriously anyways!

Creator left to co-find Treasure with Maegawa (Iga said so) and the original team became more focus on shumps, licensed games and Goemon so they were replaced.
http://www.gamingcx.com/2011/08/gamecenter-cx-episode-7-prince-of_6706.html (Starts at 27:30)
>>3757595
Pretty sure the only CV people who left Konami for Treasure were the main programmers for Castlevania IV and Contra III.
>>3757573
Fixed.
>>3757605
Iga said otherwise.
Please watch the interview.
>>3757595
But almost everything treasure ever made is super anime styled.
>>3757617
Granted, Treasure was mostly a Tokyo effort but some of Konami's Kobe staff was involved about finding Treasure as well as they not only did Castlevaina 1, 2 and 3 but also Violent Storm, Snake's Revenge (Kojima likes it), Goemon and Twinbee, all IPs with different art styles, of course most of Kobe stayed and later became interdependent (after splitting Kobe into Osaka and Tokyo) and was renamed Good Feel.
>>3757613
Iga never directly says the Castlevania creator left for Treasure. The only known Castlevania people who went to Treasure were Nami and Yaiman (programmers for CV4) and Maegawa himself (who worked on Belmont's Revenge if I'm not mistaken).
The lead designer who worked on the NES Castlevania, which is suspected to be a Hitoshi Akamatsu (who was credited on CV2 and CV3 and might had worked on CV1) pretty much disappeared from the gaming industry after 1991. He might not even been alive at this point, given how little information surrounding him there may be.
>>3757635
He said he left for another company in the early 90s which is where Treasure was founded, by this logic he is strongly hinting that he left for Treasure.
>>3757639
Well, he's not talking about Treasure. The guy that created Castlevania is Hitoshi Akamatsu, who seems to have vanished after working on CV3. Where he ended up, I have no idea.
>>3758116
Iga was not talking about him however, watch the interview.
>>3757608
The joke is that Naked Snake is from a Japanese game, while Skullgirls is western.
further proof that the 64 Castlevania's did no wrong
(let's just ignore the awful US covers)

Is Kojima, dare I say it, a tranny?
>>3758503

>>3758539
fun fact: the char designer for CV64 is a hentai artists.
>>3758547
Should have seen that coming
>>3758548
that girly Malus... jesus... guess they decided not to bother with the ribbon thing.
>>3758547
He was also the JP cover/promo artist for Contra: Hard Corps.
>>3751947
*Kasutorebaania
Everyone knows order of Order of Ecclesia was the game with the best art in the end while Dawn of Sorrow was the most generic looking.
>>3758594
The two PS2 games have the best aesthetics desu.
reminder
I think what OP means to say is he knows castlevania is japanese made by japanese creators, but the inspiration for it was always western monster movies aesthetics. At least until some point when a creator took over castlevania and didn't give a shit about that, and just went with what he/she was most comfortable with, which was their own native artstyle.
>>3758986
>At least until some point when a creator took over castlevania and didn't give a shit about that, and just went with what he/she was most comfortable with, which was their own native artstyle.
Rondo?
>>3751947
Friendly reminder that Order of Ecclesia has the best Castlevania artstyle.
>>3751952
>Rondo had an animu style
This.
SOTN's art was a massive improvement over Rondo's.
>>3751947
Sotn art is fucking beautiful. You talk like it is a generic anime shit and that's not the case. Are you blind or somenthing?
>>3752380
WTF? Akumario Dorakyura?
>>3758293
But the thing is that not only that it does not work but it's also not funny as well.
>>3759031
in fact, SOTN artworks is western style (even when Its not western) like one you can found in Magic the Gathering.
OP is just an old dude crying.
