I've always found Sega's 8-bit home games to be bland and garish in the audio, visual, and gameplay departments. What worthwhile exclusives and multiplats best played on the GG or SMS might change my mind? Was it all just shit? Am I shit? Help me understand, /vr/
Phantasy Star is pretty much the only worthwhile 8 bit Sega game. For everything else you're better off with an NES
Horseshit. Lucky Dime Caper, Tails Adventure, Sanic 1&2, Psycho Fox, there's lots of good Master System and GG games

This.
Also had a great time with Asterix.

I've found the versions of Elevator Action, Castle Excellent and Zaxxon to be nicer.

Double fucking this. Psycho Fox is God tier.
I love Action Fighter also

Master of Darkness
Disney Sega games
Psycho Fox
Double Dragon
Shinobi
Ninja Gaiden
Zaxxon
Aztec Adventure
The GG Shinobi I and II and Alex Kidd in Shinobi World are the only 8-bit Shinobi games worth playing. SMS Shinobi has some rather obtuse power-up mechanics, while SMS Shadow Dancer and Cyber Shinobi are crap.
I'm a big sega fan as well but have never really been able to get into a lot of their 8-bit games as well. I did really enjoy the gamegear rpg Defenders of Oasis though. It's a little rough around the edges in some regards but it has a great soundtrack and a cool atmosphere (not very often you see Arabian Nights-esque jrpgs). Aside from that though I'm gonna have to go with Phantasy Star like everyone else

Lucky Dime Caper is the best game
Psychic World is a fun game on SMS.
Only flaw is that there is no hit invincibility so walking against an enemy can drain your health in a second. This is extremely annoying on the ice level.
But overall a great game.
