For the SMS, Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap. Arguably the best SMS game.
I would also recommend Phantasy Star, but I'm not sure if you can play a patched Japanese ROM on it, or how. While there is a EU/US release of the game, it does not have the FM sound or the improved retranslation the patched jap rom has.
