what's the clunkiest retro game you ever played?
>>3745954
>>3745974
Tomb Raider was the first that came to mind.
this sluggish piece of shit.
>>3746040
Same goes for all Treasure games, they are all style over substance.
Doom on the 3DO. Did you always wanna play doom like you were heavily drunk and had your feet stuck in porridge? Now thanks to the 3DO port, you can!
>>3746094
>they are all style over substance.
I think Square's post-SNES efforts fit the bill a lot more, unless you're head over heels over shitty plots and characters taken from animu/action films for the most part.
>>3746169
You must not have played many games. Echo Night is a masterpiece.
>>3746225
>controls like you are in a wheelchair
>>3746237
Wheelchairs don't have strafe buttons.
You sound like the people complaining about Echo Night Beyond being "slow" because they spent the entire game without trying to press the run button.
>>3746098
(((She))) tried to make it playable, anyway.
>>3746094
>he never beat an arcade game
Way worse than the NES versions. Clunky, slow controls, mediocre music remixes, mediocre overall presentation and really astonishing slowdown. I don't normally mind slowdown, but holy hell; the crash bomb wall wart boss and Woodman are fucking ridiculous. It seriously feels like playing in slowmo. Makes sense that it was relegated to the Sega Channel in the US.
kings field
>>3746296
The arcade games I beat had actual levels in them.
>>3746256
I bet you are one of those people that enjoy kings field controls
>>3745954
The worst games I ever rented were this and MK: Special Forces. Just awful.
Playing Spawn. Yep, it's crap. Pure crap. Even with texture filtering on the textures look pixelated and blocky.
>tfw old
>>3748926
nothing beats a coleco
>>3748943
To be fair, Nova Blast was awesome and Coleco had the very best pre-NES port of Donkey Kong.
Plus Pepper 2. Pepper 2 was fucking great.
>>3748956
Oh I know, I just can't help but think of that every time I see coleco hardware or games on /vr/. I have a weird, passionate love for 2600 DK though.
>>3748969
You want to really solidify your love for Blocky Kong?
Go play the sg1000 version of Congo Bongo
>>3748990
I will have to check that out, I have next to no SG-1000 experience.
>>3748995
Exerion port is good, so is Psycho Fox and like, Sanic, wait Psycho and Sanic are Master System.
I get confused because Master System can play SG-1000 games.
MediEvil
3D action game with no manner of lock-on. Even more unfortunate that it came out the same year as OoT did.
>>3749424
eeeeeeeh Clunky is the wrong word for this one. More like "frantic"
>>3749424
I think they maybe deliberately wanted to make him feel clumsy
>>3745974
being this autistic
>>3746258
Didn't the people responsible for the port think they'd just have to recompile the code and it'd magically work? lol
>>3745992
Tomb Raider has awesome controls. If you actually learn how to use all the movement options and perform them at the right time (i.e. actually learn and get good at the game) you get extremely flexible and precise movement. The only real issue is that the walking animation is too tightly coupled to how far you move so it is hard to pick up items if you misaligned with the tile grid so to speak.

>Tomb Raider has awesome controls.
No way. Can't tell you how many times I've pressed the jump button and the bitch just kept running. That game had delay issues or something because it did not react well with quick button changes.
