What PSX racing games should I be playing beside R4?
I prefer more arcade type racing games, so don't say Gran Turismo, please. I just want something to do run time attacks in and try to git gud.
I guess other systems are fine too, but PSX is preferred.
>>
Gran Turismo has an arcade mode
>>
Side by Side Special 2000
Demolition Racer
>>
The Need for Speed games, though the AI is a cheating fuck.
>>
>>3730287
That just means you just pick a track, a car, and race.
>>
>>3730282
If you have a PS2 you should get Outrun 2006 Coast to Coast, burnout 3 and revenge they're probably my favorite arcade racers for home consoles. Although your can't go wrong with most of the RIIIIIIIIIDGE RACEEEER games. Also early NFS games.
>>
>>3730391
As far as PS2 arcade racing goes I prefer Shutoko Battle/ Tokyo Xtreme Racer, but you've got a point.
>>
>>3730290
Unfortunately Side By Side only gives analog support when you use a NeGcon.

If you like the Ridge Racer games, Speed Racer on PS1 is a solid imitation.

Git gud at the older Ridge Racer games before they casualized the drifting
>>
>>3730574
R4 is the only one with actually complex drifting all other are doable on digital controls. Drifting in R4 on digital is a chore.
>>
>>3730582
R4 has the easiest drifting of all of them, you can just crank the steering and not give a shit
>>
V-Rally 2 is amazing.

>>
>>3730452
This is a really good PS1 game with a great soundtrack. KMFDM rules

>>3730674
Ugh...I wanted to like this game so much but it was such a shit port.

Play Rage Racer and Ridge Racer Revolution if you haven't already.

The WipeOut Series is amazing. XL, original, and 3 in that order

Destruction Derby 1 and 2 are fun but each are janky in their own way. I prefer 1 and playing on the figure 8 track is fun as fuck.

NeGcon is a shitty gimmick controller. I've tried using it on multiple games, but I've found that just using a regular controller is ten times better.
>>
>>3732616
Loved that game. One of the first PS1 games I bought.
>>
>>3730282
>PSX

>>3732669

>>
>>3732649
Yea, the JogCon was shitty too. I liked that Namco was trying to get different controllers out there for different experiences but nothing beat the original controller.
>>
>>3730676
This!
>>
>>3732649
These are racing games though, which suck with dpads which is what you'd have to use with the game unless you emulate. When you emulate you can use your normal controller while the system thinks you're using a NeGcon for analog support.
>>
>>3732909
There's also a few third party PSX controllers/wheels that can emulate the NeGcon protocol for those games that require it for analog controls.
>>
>>3732616

It's the forgotten child of the series, for some reason. It was on a demo disc that came with my PS1 back in the day, so I have a fondness for it.
>>
>>3734725
You'd think RR1 or Revolution would be more forgotten. Well, maybe not so much RR1, since it got a remake included with R4.
>>
>>3730574

nice webm anon
>>
>>3734741
Those will never be forgotten, especially the first one since it was so revolutionary that even Xbox's flagship racer referenced it in their TV commercial. It wasn't even subtle, it had Galaxian, Solvalou, the announcer and everything. Even just thinking back it blows my fucking mind how odd these two companies are being. Anyway, besides that, just the aesthetic of the first two Ridge Racer games are unique enough to hold their ground for a very long time.
>>
>>3734741
RR1 was the first PS1 game and was bundled with early PS1s, I believe.

And the arcade version came out at the same time as Doom and had much better 3D graphics

I forgot the link, starts at 54 seconds and I also made a webm of it. You should watch the video for the announcer sound though.

>remake

You know, I love the original RR, but I honestly can't go back to it after playing RR Turbo/Hi-Spec Demo (even though it's more of a full game than a demo) since the enhanced graphics and 60 FPS makes a big fucking difference.
>>
>>3732947
pretty much every pre-DualShock PS1 racing wheel pretends to be a neGcon

IIRC, there are a tiny handful of games with analog control that don't work properly with anything other than a real neGcon though, but I can't find the list
>>
>>3732616
No idea. It had a completely bonkers soundtrack.
