I'm not sure if it's not a thinly veiled trolling anymore:
>I was hesitant to write this, because I know I'm gonna be flamed for it, but the truth must be told: I have a friend whose cousine has a former workmate who knows this guy who works somewhere at Sony. According to my friend this guy said that the PS2 is just a scam and that it's only meant to make money. That would explain why Sony forgot to put anti-aliasing in there. It would also explain why they didn't come up with a new design for the controller, they just want to make money but they don't want to spend any.

>Also, Mr. Kroland, do you think $300 is valid for such a piece of crap? It doesn't even play back DVD's very well. I have a friend who's got a 60" HDTV set and he compared it to his $2000 Pioneer DVD player, saying "they're not quite comparable of course". How about that? He also said that you gotta have a special cable, S-video or something, to get good quality. If the PS2 is so good, why do you need a special cable to get better picture quality? Shouldn't you be able to get just as good quality with an ordinary $15 RF cable?

Hmmm... Why would they call the PS1 a PSX? I'll try emailing Digital Eclipse, Midway, and Namco to let them know that the PSX is actually a PS2/DVR hybrid released in Japan in late 2003 and not the original PlayStation.
>>
>>3728484
Ridge Racer I can kind of understand as it was literally the first game allocated a catalogue number.

That Digital Eclipse one is number 399 though, and released two years into the consoles life. It smacks of laziness on their part not to correct the mistake.
>>
>welding
>>
>>3728484
PSX is a production name. Like how the catalogue numbers for Gamecube games start with DOL, or RVL for Wii games. Anybody who actually calls it a PSX or claims it's ever been used colloquially is an idiot or trolling though.
>>
>>3728545
>claims it's ever been used colloquially
Except it very obviously was if you take a look at the internet archive or gaming magazines from the period. You have to be pretty obstinate not to see it for yourself.

Development names are generally cool as fuck though, especially Sega and Nintendo's. Fuck, Saturn even kept it. Who wouldn't rather have a Dolphin than a Gamecube or a fucking Revolution instead of a Wii.
>>
>>3728459

>>
>>3728556
>a fucking Revolution instead of a Wii.
Revolution is too cool of a name for Wii, I think they did good on this one.
>>
>>3728556
When it was the only one it was just called Playstation and then once PS2 came out some people took to calling it PS1. Even in gaming magazines I never saw it called PSX. Unless calling it that is some US thing that nobody else in the world does? In any case it's wrong now since PSX is something else that exists independently so anybody who uses it nowadays is definitely being ignorant.
And yeah I agree on the dev names being cool. I wonder if it's just a novelty thing though? Like how consoles are always more desireable in the non-default color (eg white PS2 and black Wii).

What kind of fucking logic is that? Just because something old shares a name or abbreviation with something new doesn't mean you discard the old one. Granted, younger people will grasp PS1 / PS2 quicker than PSX / PS2, but you can't just ignore the fact it was, at one point, widely called the PSX for short.

Okay, Bro.

It literally amazes me how intensely millenials deny this. Basically if you were old enough to be online and read gaming magazines you know and if you weren't then you have a different recollection because it definitely was something that appeared almost exclusively in print.

Every single person with any interest in the 5th gen should really read this article that originally appeared in Edge magazine

I guarantee you if you went up to any group of 20-40 y/o people on the street and asked them if they knew what a "PSX" was, they would have no idea. But if you said PS1 they would know instantly. Honestly which is more likely to you, that people referred to its actual name and then the obvious numbering choice to differentiate it from the second one once that came out, or that people called it by the name that only appears in development documents, some hobbyist magazines, and ROM headers? I don't think it have even heard anyone pronounce "pee ess ecks" out loud in my entire life.

37 year-old, east coast fag here. We referred to it as the PSX until at least the release of the PSOne model. By then the PS2 was out I think, and it did make more sense to generally refer to it as PS1 and PS2 instead of PSX. But old habits die hard.

It's PSX because "PS" sounds like nothing, it sounds like you're about to add a sarcastic little quip in the next 5 seconds when you say it in a sentence. PSX is cool and rad and was the codename for the console in printed magazines before it came out.

Pretty much any (USA) gamer old enough to remember the lifespan of the PlayStation will know the abbreviation PSX. I imagine that most people triggered by it are underage or from outside the US, like how Americans get triggered by "Sness" or "Seeegah"

I'm 31 and I do remember some magazines referring to it as the PSX at one point. But I never actually heard anyone refer to it as the PSX in person, it was pretty much just the Playstation for everyone I knew. Once I got online (around the time MGS2 was coming out), most people were just calling it the PS1 for short. Honestly, both are fine and some of you guys are too autistic about this sort of thing.
>>
>>3729290
No you stupid child the playstation's prerelease name was Play Station eXperimental so we came used to calling it the PSX even after release.
>>
34 here, and a Britfag and can confirm what this anon:

>>3729342

says. It's exactly like that. PSX in print and ps1 in person. And VERY much agree with the austism observation.
>>
>>3729423

ammendum:

and we would only have said "ps1" AFTER the ps2 cam eout because you didn't know if there was a second one.
>>
The anti-PSX guy is a copycat troll, a pretty funny imitation though.

But we used to have this one guy here who was a Gen Zer that went around telling everyone that actually lived in the times that it wasn't abbreviated PSX.

Besides PS2 is not retro so it's unnecessary to clarify here that it's PS1.

First of all, it's sarcastic, but second of all, the one on the right is not stretched to 16:9; I measured the number of pixels in a graphics program and it's approximating quite closely 4:3, i.e. how it would have actually looked then. The one on the left is in a "one pixel is square" aspect ratio, which is not how NES games looked ever until people started emulating them (the NES has 256 by 240 screen resolution.)
