Shatterhand is beyond amazing. Also check out Solbrain, the Jap version, which is quite different, easier but has a completely unique stage and many more differences; and also Choujin Sentai Jetman which I could swear runs in the same engine.

Technically speaking Shatterhand's graphics, be it stages, characters, animations, etc, are way better than Mega Man 6 while coming out at the same time as Mega Man 4.
