I just beat Kolibri for the first time!

Ask me anything!
>>
Would you say that it's arguably the greatest hummingbird-based shooter for the 32X?
>>
How did you feel wasting your time with that game?
>>
>>3718549
Was it harder than what I just beat for the first time? Which happens to be Risky Woods.
>>
>>3718556
Kolibri had a lot of stiff competition in that race, but I think that it wins by a beak.

I enjoyed myself immensely. Playing Kolibri was time well spent.
>>
>>3718559
I haven't beaten Risky Woods.
The difficulty in Kolibri varied greatly from level to level.
I could beat Some levels very quickly on the first try.
On other levels I died repeatedly.

It's a fast paced and challenging game, and definitely worth the playthrough.
>>
Worth getting a 32X for?
>>
>>3718582
32X is worth getting just because it improves the composite signal of the Genesis.

But other than Kolibri, I'd say there about 10 other games definitely worth getting for it.
>>
>>3718585
Well let's hear what they are. My bank account aint gonna empty itself.

>10 good games on the 32x

That's being a little too generous.

Here are the good games for 32X...

>After Burner
>Blackthorne
>Knuckles' Chaotix
>Kolibri
>Shadow Squadron
>Space Harrier
>>
>>3718796
Aside from the ones you mentioned, I was personally going to say

Tempo
Star Wars Arcade
NBA Jam TE
Virtua Racing Deluxe
Virtua Fighter
Cosmic Carnage
Doom
T-Mek
Darxide

Maybe not every one of these games are amazing, but I still find them to be worthy of owning and I do own all of them aside from Darxide (which I've played on an Everdrive).
>>
>>3718796
>>3718812
You just named the entire library, lol.

Considering getting an Everdrive just so I can save on Sega CD games. A Sega CD Ram cart costs about $70 used and a Mega Everdrive is about $80 and it has more blocks.
>>
>>3718830

Wow I listened to the entire song. This sounds like complete shit.
>>
>>3718826
That's not even half the library.
>>
>>3720304
Literally!
>>

I think he was joking.
>>
>>3718549
... how do you get pass the part with frog s and wind resistance?
>>
>>3720527
Git gud!
>>
>>3720527
What level?
Do you mean in the tunnel level?

I got stuck there. Find the small wall breaker spheres amd then find the deatructible rocks that block your path.

Press A near the stones and Kolibri will launch the wall breaker shot.

Pick on the left shows destructible rocks.

This game is so beautiful and so completely market deaf, who the fuck was this game for? the 14-18 year old demographic that sega marketed towards wasn't going to buy a game like this at all, did they think Ecco was precedent?
>>
>>3726885
>Did they think Ecco was a precendent?

Absolutely. ECCO sold well, Novatrade wanted to ride the wave of its success.

Kolobri is very similar to ecco, in theme and gameplay.

Novatrade was probably testing the waters of the 32x system with kolibri before it attempted to produce another Ecco game for it.
>>
>>3728537
Case in point...

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OHQAJyPinyY

This is a promotional vid produced by novatrade for the 32X. It teases the release of another ECCO game.

There were also rumors of an Ecco game for Saturn.
>>
>>3726864
Awww.
Dah hummingbiwd and dah bwees are fwiends!

There was a retro pc game that was similar, you played as an owl I believe. Anybody??

That's the one!
>>

Yes anon thank you for the reply. I used to play the crap out of this when I was a kid
>>
>>3728860
Is that the Psygnosis owl?
>>
>>3730868
Basically.

It is a psygnosis game after all.

Tell me more about the birds and the bees!

Game from the old Spanish software era.

I think it might have had some stuff in common with dartkthrone.

Mr. OP, your thread seems to have the momentum of a runaway freight train. Why are you so popular and good at Kolibri?

This game is called "Kolibri" it was released for the Sega 32X.
>>
>>3736005
Oh, I see, thanks!
>>
>>3718671
personally, the 32X would be worth it just for Virtua Racing Deluxe (to this day, it's the closest to arcade -- VF on Saturn and PS2 both fuck up the handling pretty noticeably and other little shit despite otherwise potentially being better)

Space Harrier is a great port (wonderful game, too).
After Burner is okay (30fps, and I never liked AB as an actual game).
Virtua Fighter has a rather decent port that's not as embarrassing as the Saturn version of VF1.
Chaotix sucks, but you have to have it. Amazing graphics and music, and the rubber-band is fun. But the stages are slapped together trash and everyone can scale walls because none of the stages approach an actual completed state where they flow properly, the game is visibly unfinished. Special stages are cool as fuck though, hot damn.
Shadow Squadron looks cool, and it's fairly fun, I just wish it was a bit more interesting overall.
Doom isn't fundamentally an awful port, surprisingly enough. Don't bother, since anyone can run it on PC, but just disable the music in the settings. There are some cuts (there are no Ep.3 stages because lol the textures didn't fit in the ROM, the lighting had a lot of cuts, etc) but it runs decently well. It suffers from the problem that enemies are always facing forward, like a lot of early ports, so enemies behave a ton differently (could be worth playing just for that, really).
BC Racers is kind of naff, but maybe look into it?

starting to reach here, can't give you ten games I actually really enjoy for the thing
Virtua Racing and Space Harrier easily the best.

>>3718830
it's a damn good thing Doom 32X lets you disable music
>>
>>3737673
>Doom 32X

That is such a shitty version of Doom.

Just don't bother with Doom 32X at all.

EVER!
>>
Kolibri means honey sucker!
>>
>>3720341
Wasn't funny
>>
>>3718549
This is the most 90s video game cover I can imagine.
>>
>>3739989
Isn't it wonderful?
>>
>>3738329
Still better than the SNES and 3DO versions.
>>
>>3740050
Sound is better on the SNES version bro.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BfCcpaNqX3s

Dunno about the 3DO version...
>>
>>3740284
I guess the snes version is better.
>>
>>3740284
>Dunno about the 3DO version...
Hope you like insanely long loading times and 5FPS gameplay.
>>
>>3741069
Ouch!
>>
>>3740284
The sound doesn't matter as much as the framerate and fucking laggy controls.

The 32X version plays ten times better. And you can criticize it for missing levels, but the SNES version is missing levels too.
>>
>>3741202
There's still no reason to ever play Doom 32X.

Not when better versions exist and are readily available.
>>
Hummingbirds?
>>
>>3741202
>fucking laggy controls.
>Need 6 button controller to change weapons

Sucks. PC mustard rice!
