Favourite Sonic ROM hacks ever for one reason or another:

- Sonic Classic Heroes (definitive real hardware version of 1&2)
- Sonic 3 Complete (definitive version of 3K)
- Sonic 1: The Next Level / Pana der Hejhog / Jester's Challenge (three good-ass one level hacks from the same dev)
- Sonic VR / Sonic 3 - The Challenges (skill-based missions and mini-levels)
- Sonic 3 - D.A. Garden Edition (like a Second Quest for S3K)
- Sonic 2 Advanced Edit (a few solid original levels, but sadly left unfinished)

Sonic after the Sequel is pretty fun too.

It's not a hack but I'll vouch for it too, and Before The Sequel. They don't play quite as well as the real deal and the graphics are hit and miss but they're fun to play and the music is fffffucking fantastic.
