I have Earthbound. DKC 2 was my favorite, and I have All-Stars for Wii.

I told myself I would stop when I used all my SNES dust covers. I thought I had 1 but just now as I put the games back on the shelf I found another one.

So that's Dreamland 3 and 1 more. Any recommendations?

SMRPG and EB are nice.

You asked for recs, I'd recommend Megaman X (2–3 are good too if you want more) and Rockman & Forte if you can get it, also Cybernator/Assault Suits Valken and Gundam Wing Endless Duel for the best SNES fighter.

Nah. One of the Sailor Moon games is a puzzle game which isn't really my forte. I only got it because it was bundled with the other two, a fighter and a beat-em-up. Also, Cho-Aniki plays like ass.

Yeah, I kinda forgot about it. In any case, Umihara Kawase, Mario & Wario, Gundam Wing and Parodius was what I literally used to play on emulators. As for Cho Aniki, having it is ok for the lulz—I mean, it's quite a notable game after all.

Fun fact: Mario Tennis was very big in Japan, selling around 1 million copies—more than Majora's Mask, DK64, and almost beating Pokemon Stadium. According to some statistics, it was the #6 best-selling game on the system in Japan—behind only the biggest hits like MK64, SM64, SSB and LoZ:OoT. Kirby 64 was also very big there, selling around 900,000 copies—not far behind Mario Tennis.

This is interesting because the install base of N64 was pretty small in Japan compared to US—only 5.5 million VS whopping 20 million consoles. And yet these 2 games sold more in Japan than in the rest of the world, against all odds.
>>
>>3714596
That's actually interesting, at least about Mario Tennis. I never knew Japan cared about tennis that much. Unless I'm missing something entirely? However, I would have assumed Kirby did well since it normally fares high sales in Japan. So that one didn't surprise me too much.
>>
>>3714621
Japan can be a bit weird when it comes to sports games. For example, Golf was one of the best selling games for Famicom. And you might think that it was an anecdote from the times when simple games ruled the market, but then Minna no Golf for PS was around #7 best-selling game for the platform—beating RE1 and 3, Gran Turismo 2, Tekken 3 and many other big hits. It's pretty funny really.

Mario Tennis is a weirder case though—it outsold Mario Golf on N64 by far. Why? I have no idea.

As for Kirby, it's true his games are still quite popular in Japan. But you'd think that with N64's smaller install base, the game's sales would scale accordingly. Surprisingly, Crystal Shards is one of his better-selling games there, selling less than GB ones (they sold 1,68 mln and 1,43 mln respectively) but on par with the later GBA installments. For comparison, GB sold around 32,5 million in Japan, and GBA did 17 million.

So if you adjust the scale, Kirby was huge on N64 in Japan.

Ah yeah, I forgot these huge instruction booklets to RPGs and Super Metroid werent a thing in the US. Was it only Europe btw? Did they thing Eurofags are too stupid to figure out RPGs?

The US SNES only had three big box games that I am aware of. Mario Paint for the mousepad (more of a plastic plate than a pad), Earthbound for the strategy guide, and Super Bomberman for the version that included the multitap. There was also the Miracle Piano, but that's a different story.

You can probably notice the difference, the gameboy in the center (the skeleton clear one) had a screen full of stickers and scratches so I ordered one of those replacement screens. It's pretty good, you can see the font and details are quite perfect. The only thing is the color of the background. The original ones have a dark gray, while the replacements (most of them) are straight black.
Nothing too bad though.

What a luck. I'm the last person to praise collections, but yours is just exquisite. Obviously put up by Japanese guy, with stuff like Famista, Momotaru Densetsu and so on. Very nice.
>>
>>3713013
Kinda depends on what you like. I love Wild Guns to just pick up and play, but it's expensive as fuck. If you like shooters, Axelay and Gradius 3 are great. Yoshi's Island is one of the best games on the system, and ever, in my opinion. If you like KDL 3, you could always get Kirby Super Star. Actraiser is fun and different at the same time. You have UN Squadron, so you might also like Earth Defense Force. Castlevania IV is obviously a popular choice as well. Secret of Mana is a classic, too, but a bit more pricey.

Really, the choices are endless. SNES library is fucking amazing, but I have to applaud you for just collecting the games that you want. The "gotta have 'em all!" mentality around here can be stifling at times.

I used to have an IFTTT alert set for KDL3, hoping to get lucky and be the first to bite on an ebay listing made by some uninformed mother selling her son's game on the cheap. Unfortunately, when it finally happened, it happened at 3 AM, and I missed out on getting it for 20 bucks. I was so pissed at my shitty luck, I just ended up paying 70 for it. It's a pretty good game, almost worth that much. It was the first game I ever emulated back in the day, so i really wanted to own a copy.

To be fair, the first Mario Tennis is a pretty fucking flawless game. Definitely one of my most-played on the system. It came along pretty late, but I remember being oddly psyched for it over the Summer of 2000. During the N64's twilight years, my friends and I played Mario Tennis more than even Smash Bros. or Mario Kart.

eBay seller called Play-Japan, about $90 CDN (a bit more then I wanted to pay but I've wanted one for a while), the main FC part works fine but the disk drive is broken, most likely just needs a new belt which is an easy fix from the looks of it, also didn't come with an AC adapter but I've found original ones for like 20 bucks.

I do play some of them on occasion. And stacking them sideways isn't an option as I don't have enough shelves for that. It's easy enough to leave a game slightly pulled out to mark where one was removed.

>Eurasia Express Satsujin Jiken

>To Heart
Played about half of this (half the characters) on PC, but sadly I found it boring. I blame this game for the shift from the kind of romance games I liked (Doukyuusei, Kakyuusei, interactive simulation & adventure games with fun protagonists) to the modern "barely-interactive novel with boring everyboy protagonist" style.
>Zutto Issho
I forget what this is; did it go with the Pocketstation or am I thinking of something else? I did wind up getting a Pocketstation the other day.

Monster-summoning SRPG I think? I seem to remember playing a Genesis game in this series.

I really like that Gameboy collection, thinking about getting some stuff I missed out on - Shantae, Zelda Oracle of Seaons/Ages, Warioland 2+3.

Didnt know some of the Gameboy games got really expensive. Turtles 1-3, Zelda, Mystic Quest/FF Legend, Battle of the Olympus, Probotector at least have a respectable price, while I didnt know I own a treasure like Mega Man V.
>>
why dont collectors really like to have the box of the games? I thought thats what makes them even more valuable? Is it because the boxes will be broken anyway over time, no matter how well you watch over them?

Thanks, got the figurines second hand from a random french ebay seller (not pro). Paid 80€ for all of them, they even came boxed. At first I thought pics were not the actual item but they were.
>>
>>3721829
I see you have at least 4 of the 6 games on this 6-pak too, are they just for collection?
>>
>>3721861
I picked up Columns, Super Hang-On, and Sonic 1 dirt cheap a couple years back. So yeah, collection. Genesis games just look so Damn good on a shelf. Revenge of Shinobi is a different story. Its just the kind of game you want a CiB copy of. So good it's timeless. Would pick up a CiB copy of Golden Axe and Streets of Rage if they weren't going for $30+ now.
>>
>>3721663
Probably for larger manuals since PAL versions covered multiple languages. That was the reason for PAL Dreamcast cases anyway.
>>
>>3720963
Agree with the other guy, carts only are quite a lot cheaper. Also yeah the boxes get damaged so easily which is why they are so rare in the first place. I use cassette cases with custom inserts for my gameboy games. I like the hard cases and uniform neat look instead of tatty old boxes.
>>
>>3720963
I only care for Genesis boxes, because they're usually plastic. Cardboard doesn't interest me, but as a kid I did save a handful of my favorite game boxes. I have every Zelda game box. I saved most of my N64 and GBA boxes for whatever reason, but I don't display them. I have them stored away, and I keep the manuals in an index card box in case I ever want to flip through them.

I'll never understand people who store their games on shelves in original cardboard boxes, or even worse, in cardboard boxes inside of protective plastic cases. That's so inconvenient when you want to play the game, which really proves the difference between collectors and people who actually play video games.
>>
>>3712797
So I'm interested in the story behind how you got this game, then. Did you find it?

When I was a kid my dad worked for a bus company as a mechanic, and he would occasionally find games that were lost by passengers. Apparently they didn't have a lost and found, because he would always give them to me. Pic related are all my found games through the years. Mostly shit. I also found a copy of F1 Race for the Game Boy like this, but I cannot seem to find it, which is a shame because it's probably the best game of this batch.

>>
>>3724035
>Really tough though.
That's the part I like though. Gameboy games should be tough because they can't be long (zelda games excluded). I like that even the first level feels tough and realistic. It's very cold war esque, everything hinged on the edge of a knife back then. Completing it feels like a real achievement, no movie game hybrid like we have now, when you finish it you feel like a real sub commander who has seen some shit.

That aside, try the harvest moon, seasons and ages and the classic arcade series for gameboy.
>>
>>3716415

Seasons and ages are on my list for sure, the price has kept me from getting them though.

Anyways, what's the appeal of Harvest Moon?
I always see it recommended, but I just don't really see whats so fun about it.

Of course, I had the same opinion of Bubble Bobble until I actually got to play it.

>>
>>3724067
Harvest Moon is a weird one for sure. "Farming RPG" does not scream fun and I guess it's a niche kinda game but they have been making them for over 20 years because there's just something comfy about them.

It's like animal crossing except not at all... I can't really describe the game and have you understand but it's the kinda game you play late at night before bed. It's just a comfy world that sucks you in. I recommend Harvest Moon 64 if you are interested in trying it. The gameboy ones are not so great except Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town for gameboy color.

Do a lot of you fellow collectorfags just pick up whatever you can get your hands on, or do you go specifically just for stuff you actually want?

>>
>>3724073
The only time I get sports games are when they are included in lots with stuff that I do want. Other than that, I'll buy shit I'm interested in unless it's cheap enough that I can either trade it or sell it. Not that I ever do sell anything, because I am too lazy to post shit on ebay, but I have traded stuff in to retro game stores and come out with better stuff than I went in with.

It has mulitplayer, but never came around to play it. Really hard to tell how good it is, I think both players/all four have to be somewhat good to make it fun. Otherwise it might be one of those "we search each other and then hold still to shoot each other" console shooter experiences.

How do you guys feel about Player's Choice/Greatest Hits/etc copies? On some consoles like the GameCube I don't mind it, but the PS1 has the entire spine in this ugly neon green.

I actually thought about sorting them out by year so the box colors would be more grouped together. I'll try it out in a bit(at work) and post results.

On that note, was/is Goemons Great Adventure(Mystical Ninja 2 in EU) also so rare in NA? I didnt even knew it existed back then, learned about it way after the N64 lifecycle.

The cart alone costs 60-70 Euros nowadays, somtimes evenmore. Boxed version with instructions are super rare and with BFD tier prices, while the first Goemon is pretty standard 10-20 bucks.
I got Mystic Ninja 2 cart in 2010 for 5 bucks by pure luck.

GGA/Goemon 2 is less common than the first game, in NTSC-U version, yeah. The loose cart seems to go for $50 to $80 dollaridoos.

I'll get a game I'm not that interested in if it's cheap. Then I'll give it a try later on. If I don't like it, too bad, but at least wasn't expensive.

The rarest ones are probably Burning Rangers, Dragonforce, Magic Knight Rayearth, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Shining Force 3.

I know Japanese but it pains me that I can't play let my roommate play most of my Saturn games since he doesn't know Japanese.
I also wish I had the English version of these games.

Good luck finding a copy. There are none on ebay and the only one on Yahoo auctions is 9000 yen.

so sad

Buying online is the only way in my area to get import games. I don't know why you feel you need to attack me about it.
>>
>>3754202
Good luck finding cheap retro games offline nowadays. Most are either scalped by resellers or held by people who know the value of it and don't wanna part with it.
>>
>>3754276
Same reason you feel the need to shitpost about your inadequacies.

>>3754303
Did you not even read the post I was replying to? Why do you think parroting the same underage meme will get any different response? I have tremendous "luck" finding cheap retro games offline nowadays. I don't fear the yellow face that lives in the sky above my moms basement and I don't rely on her to drive me places. That's all the "luck" it takes.

I'm currently working on a ps3 RPG collection. I'm sitting on like.. 25 so far but I can't find a complete list. Does anyone have an up to date list for PS3 RPGs? I'm mostly just collecting Non-multiplats unless they're better on the PS3 instead of something else.
>>
>>3754959
Somebody will shout "NOT RETRO" soon enough, so this is just a heads up.

Sadly, I don't know much about the PS3, sorry I can't help. Try:

Why are your games going alphabetically from right to left?

Thank you for the heads up.

I've got over 500 games in all, not all retro, but most of it's in storage for now. This is what I got with me atm.

Also got my gameboy collection at my parent's place. I'll post that tomorrow.

>barely enough space to put my TVs and consoles out
>certainly don't have space to shelve all of my games at the moment
It's a source of great shame, I own maybe 400 games between all my consoles but right now I have them all in boxes stacked neatly that are easy to get to. Someday I'll have a nice shelf like you guys do.

Buying games as an adult gets so stupid
Cause you know you're gonna get more games than you ever actually get around to playing

I'm getting through them though!

How does /vr/ feel about this:
Purchasing actual or reproduction blank cases for the Sega Genesis, then printing off the Covers for all the original loose cartridges you have.

Why bother?

Should I continue with my genesis collection, or sell to continue a different collection?
>>
>>3759490
Selling genesis games won't net you enough to start collecting anything else, unfortunately. Also you have a good collection, I would hang onto itm hombre.

>>
>>3724539
How slow is SNES DOOM at 50hz? Not trolling, genuinely curious, nice collection.
>>
>>3759490
Wait for it. Genesis games are still cheap compared to Nintendo shit. There might be a spike in interest once the Smash Bros hipster fags discover there were other systems besides the SNES. Then again, it might not. Either way, I'd hold onto them. You're not gonna get much.
>>
>>3759249
I do that. I saved the boxes for all of my Genesis games as a kid, so whenever I pick up a new one here or there, if I absolutely can't find a box for it, or if it originally came with a cardboard box, I'll make one.

Although, then they take up much more room, which I'm running out of. I feel like I might take call my Genesis games out of the cases and keep the boxes in the back of my closet for now. Then instead of having two shelves of games, I could probably fit them all in a single shoe box or something.
