>Master System before Saturn

I'm curious, why?
>>
>>3703803

In what way? It has a lot of great games.

On Master System I can only think of Zillion which is an okay game, some of the Wonder Boy Monster Land, maybe the Sonic games, Land of Illusion and I pretty much run out of games I enjoyed on it.
I could understand if you have nostalgia for its arcade ports back in the day, but otherwise I don't get it.
>>
>>3703809
Saturn was a poorly-designed chipset, with lacking software releases for the Western market, that cost too much money to manufacture and effectively killed Sega as a hardware company.
>>
>>3703812
Stupid American marketing killed sega.

Saturn did well in Japan.
>>
>>3703816
The Japanese market is not saved Saturn.
>>
>>3703812

>for the Western market

How is that relevant in this day?

I forgot to mention Phantasy Star (which was.... just okay) and the Europe-only Ninja Gaiden (which was also alright, but not a system seller).

Where are the Master System equivalents to Nights, Panzer Dragoon series, Saturn Bomberman, Albert Odyssey, Shining Force III, Dragon Force, Keio 2, and of course the arcade ports it has are all pretty much great, which isn't the case with the Master System which are all slideshows of 2 or 3 frames per second and not really like the arcades at all.
Don't even get me started on the japanese catalogue.

Seriously, I can understand your hate for the system from a silly fanboy/anti-SoA bias point of view, but objectively speaking, I don't understand how you can prefer the SMS over the SS. No logic.

>costs Sega approximately $330 to manufacture each Saturn. By the time units have been boxed, marketed shipped, and distributed, it's estimated that Sega is losing almost $100 per unit
>>
>OP asks about consoles
>retards start arguing things they don't understand, like business and finances.

Classic.

Just say what consoles you like. Sega won't hire you because of your "brilliant" (this is sarcasm, just in case) analysis on Sega's business history.

Lack of communication between SOA and SOJ caused shit stains such as the 32X to be produced. Combine that with SOA mismanagement of the Saturn in the west and the fact that SOA ended the Saturn without any grace, Most people just say oh pulling the plug made SEGA lose western third party support, oh it did a lot more damage than that. As it's been said Saturn was doing good in Japan and had a rapidly growing user base. Then around late 1997 comes Bernie Stolar with a comment that goes more or less Saturn a fucking shit, Dreamcast/Katana is the future. What happens is pretty much everything scheduled for 1999,2000 is canceled. Outside the west everybody was rejoicing oh what a love fest the Dreamcast sounds. The Japanese user base on the other hand was furious their system which showed no signs of faltering was cut prematurely causing massive butthurt and people vowing never to buy the Dreamcast. The Japanese third party on the other hand found SEGA to simply be too unpredictable why should they even bother with the Dreamcast when they can just go shit out a game for the fuck huge Playstation user effectively killing the Dreamcast on arrival.

In the end Bernie Stolar was wrong about everything the mid-late 90s were the golden age of "weeb" games
>>

Let me guess, you expect people to take you seriously?

Fuck you and your Master Nigger nostalgia.

What the hell are you mumbling on about retard the Saturn went on sale in Japan for 44.800 JPY 1994 then the later cheapened Model 1 PCB revisions 34.480 JPY. Then came the Model 2 and it's revisions which was further cut manufacturing costs and it was 20.000JPY.

Then we have the Victory and Hitachi ones which were a tad bit pricier.

You mean, took the manufacturing costs from "absolutely batshit insane" to "just ludicrous".

Because to not lower the price by that stage would be market share suicide against PS1, whether the manufacturing price went down or not.

>>3703871
>The big bucks comes from software sales you know.
Contrary to popular belief, Saturn's software sales in Japan were not that impressive. Attach-rate in Japan is somewhere around the 3.5 games mark. Pathetic.

Then try opening a PS1 and N64 and do a comparison.

Yeah it's a shame SEGA didn't quality control the Saturn like SONY did with the SCPH 1000-5000models I mean they would have gotten additional 2 million sales. Man those scheming guys at SONY

And? How do you know how much those components cost? The ASICs inside could have cost $1 apiece.

You have no source on how much the machine cost, or how much they lost by selling it at whatever the price.

Saturn. Saturn has incredible visuals, god-tier 2D games, excellent shmups and fighters, two superb controllers, kick ass light gun games. Tons to love about it, just wish SoA handled it better maybe we'd have Sega in the hardware business today. Genesis has tons of excellent sidescrollers, solid shmups but the library lacks a bit of variety. Still love it. The dreamcast is a little weak. There aren't many games to be frank. It's probably Sega's worst console. I'd like to get into the master system, but for now I just don't know enough about it.

-Kalinske wanted SGI to make the MD successor, SoJ shot it down because they thought their absurdly designed hardware would win them the fifth generation when all it did was scare away developers because of being overengineered trash

-Shining Force III pts2&3 which made Camelot leave Sega for Nintendo
>>
>>3704802

Kalinske is a tech guru now? All he's good at is advertising barbies and furry mascots.
>>
>>3704615
Because, dipshit, things like the size of ASICs, the number of pins and clock speed are linearly related to cost.

Let me put it this way, only one of the following can be true.

A: Sony and Nintendo made MAD profit dividends on selling console hardware

B; Sega lost a substantial amount of money selling each console

For example, there is no reason to believe each Hitachi SH2 didn't cost approximately as much as a MIPS 3000A.
