I still remember the year when half the SNES roms got purged.

Videogame piracy isn't really an issue worth tackling. It'll always happen.

Don't Final Fantasies and the Golden Ax roms always get purged?

They also only upload shareware versions of Apogee games. What a jews.
>>
>>3701337
Because it probably isn't worth the company's time and money to prosecute whoever's running it.
>>
Admin's in an obscure European country as I recall, I'd be surprised if he hasn't been contacted at all after running for 10+ years but they probably don't give enough of a fuck or have the authority to do anything.

There are better sites for retro roms though, some of the dumps there are of the terrible scene variety - intros and ridiculous compression methods everywhere. For PS2/GC/Xbox they're still number one though.
>>
>>3701365
The same can be said of any crime actually.

The fact of the matter is that the owner is in India and their police don't really give a shit to track him down. It doesn't hurt that their domain is in Hungary, and they don't like foreign governments coming in and trying to shut their servers down.

Even if they are in the EU.
>>
planetemu.net
French site that has been around since 2001. It's where I got KOF 2002 from, I remember it took me 4 hours to download the thing in a Saturday.
>>
I love that they use scene releases for newer consoles (GBA, PS2)

Great site
>>
>>3702432
What do you mean by scene releases?

>>3702373
What's the best site for GBA roms? More specifically, FFVI and FFV Advance.
>>
>>3702373
>or have the authority to do anything.

That sure as hell didn't stop America from shutting down Megaupload.
>>
>>3702436
>What's the best site for GBA roms? More specifically, FFVI and FFV Advance.
Planetemu has almost all of the GBA roms I could think of.

Coolrom is the best site for everything.

>For PS2/GC/Xbox they're still number one though.
isozone would be better if they had an actual hosting solution, emuparadise is missing a bunch of ntsc-j stuff

>>3702432
on PS2, scene releases are fine
fuck GBA scene releases though (you didn't have to crack shit, why the fuck is there a stupid cracktro prepended to the game), I'm so glad the DS scene never did that shit

also, DC scene releases are garbage, mostly because the data layout of the image is absolute trash (nothing like playing say, Dynamite Cop and it having 4x more loading than it should with the DC drive motor making as much noise as it can because it has to seek back and forth constantly)

coolrom is shit
>>
Old games always tended to be left alone. In the year 2000 they gave a shit if you put up N64 games and you could expect to soon be served with a notice, not particularly if you put up SNES and it was open season for NES, C64 or similarly old games. Time has moved on and now they don't really give a shit about PS2, gamecube etc. If they started putting up PS4 games you can be sure they wouldn't last long.
>>
>>3701338
DAD stop posting!
>>
>>3702456
No CoolRom was one of if not the worst rom site.
>>
>>3702518
I believe this 100%
They don't have Wii games, on normal direct download, and I assume it's not due to bandwidth since those games are the same size as PS2 isos
>>
>>3702478
>you didn't have to crack shit, why the fuck is there a stupid cracktro prepended to the game

Those releases were meant for flash carts, not emulators, and on those you sometimes needed to bypass protections.

Besides, dumping hardware wasn't as cheap in 2001 as it is now, and writing intros on a GBA isn't something everyone can do either. So if they wanted to put their intro their, all the power to them.

>>3702478
>DC scene releases are garbage, mostly because the data layout of the image is absolute trash

Some games do that on their original GD-ROMs too (Garou MOTW comes to mind). Also, often there is no choice due to GD-ROMs having better seek and load times due to their physical layouts (everything is on the outer rim by default, and the data density is double), and this cannot be replicated on a CD at all for larger titles.

For small games, yeah, you can pad them out to the end of the disc. But on larger games, or games that use lots of CD Audio, that's not an option.

>>3702478
Yeah, even though the DC scene releases are pretty much obsolete now (unless you play your games off CDs like an absolute pleb) they put an incredible amount of work into those to make it so people could play those games from CD-Rs.

Back when those GBA games were released sometimes they didn't even work on emulators without the scene cracks. Those releases with intros and such aren't really needed now and they're not necessarily better than modern dumps that have been verified but I like seeing the intros on my real hardware. Brings back nostalgia for days when I used to go into #gbanow and #gbatemp and download the newest games to play them on an emulator. That's the same reason I download old BBS scene stuff for 16 bit consoles. Love seeing their work on the real hardware.

Well, the story is told as "America shutting him down" but it was really the Australian government that did it...

Sure, it was the FBI using the Australian government as it's puppet but that's what you get for trying to hide in a good goy country.
>>
>>3702518
Can confirm - even doujin-games88.net only stocks up to PS3.
>>
Rom Nation and Planet Emu are also still around so I don't get your question OP
>>
At the end of the day, normies won't touch an emu with a ten foot pole and will be happy to buy shit like that nes reissue, while the 'leet haxors who emu would never give a cent to IP holders in any case. IP holders have likely seen this, and only issue to occasions Cease and Desist to exercise ownership of their shit.
>>
Nicoblog is great for getting obscure stuff like fan translated games.
>>
>>3701337

Funny I used to think Emuparadise was a shitty site, decade ago.

Always liked Coolrom and Romnation, sites like that better, it's quick and easy.

But looking at it today EP is really good, the community is great.
>>
>>3703572
Just make sure to use NoScript (or just disable Javascript), or you're getting a faceful of viruses.
>>
>>3702463

coolrom used to havc GBA roms
>>
>>3703572

nah, EP does it better (AeonGenesis etc)

that's why I said the community there is great

Nicoblog is just a blog with one man taking files from other sites and piling it on his blog.
>>
Also, IINM Coolrom wasn't always Coolrom, (or was it RomNation?)

There was Ice-something-roms/emu and the site looked more like UndergroundGame with blue tint.

Few years later it turned into Coolrom? and had that similar easy A-Z, 0-9 design like Romnation.

Do you think roms and emulation actually makes losses for a company?

You cant take someone to court saying that they were involved in piracy, circulating things that you cant buy anymore, cant play on any systems being made anymore totalling losses upwards of $0
>>
>>3703652
To a company? Yes.
To the original developers? No, they don't receive any penny from remakes/rerelases.
>>
>>3703653

What if the rom site doesnt include the 'remakes'?

Bare in mind, the remake would technically be a completely different entity. Like saying pirating the original total recall is the same as pirating the new one (legally)

SEGA was founded by an American guy named David Rosen who was in Japan around the time of the Korean War. He started the company as SErvice GAmes with various electromechanical machines.

In the pic from the 90's, Rosen in seen playing a cocktail Zaxxon arcade game at his palatial Beverly Hills manor house. He was the one who came up with the name "Zaxxon" interestingly enough.

I guess the /pol/ stormfags will have to toss their Genesis, Dreamcast, and SMS's on the pile of burning books in the backyard now.

Really, this board is a testament to serious/dedicated gaming.
Just posting here makes us spergs compared to the status quo.

I'm sorry, not everyone can afford or get lucky enough to buy a GDEMU like you.

Not him but there are some aspects of nostalgia I don't miss and this is one of them. I just want to play the fucking game, i'll download a pack of PD roms if I want to stare at pretty tech demos.
>>
>>3704987
It's easy enough to find goodsets etc of roms if you never want to see them. You would especially want those if you want to use ips patches on them. Unless the ips patches are scene released trainers...
>>
>>3703807
>can afford
Ask your parents. Kiddo.
>get lucky
Subscribe to the blog and buy it when available. Sure is luck.
