Silver>Gold>Crystal
Crystal doesn't have Aeroblast Lugia, or Sacred Ash Ho-oh, all it had was a can't fail at catching one of the legendaries that are meant to be a hunt capture minigame.

Only time Crystal beats the other two is when you Link your Lugia/Ho-oh into the game at a point where they don't feel power leveled.

FR/LG is pretty damn good (though not perfect) and HG/SS is GOAT.

I hear S/M is leagues better than the whole gen ORAS was on. I dunno what drugs GF were taking over ORAS and X/Y, but they must've been pretty hard.

after playing gold recently as its consistantly rated one of the better games, imo, the originals in red/blue were better more engaging game imo. esepcially when gold essentially had the red/blue games just tacked on with very little additional content and a lot of it missing

ie. safari zone closed, etc.

I may be biased seeing as I also frequent /vp/, but the first 2 gens of Pokemon are my favorite JRPGs. I think the way the party system is structured is a cool innovative way of battling. I really like the atmosphere of both gens, especially GSC. I think that Red/Blue had the better story (I like its simplicity), but GSC definitely had the better setting and music.

HMs were a shit mechanic, the overwhelming majority of the attacks were shit, and being unable to un-learn them was bullshit as hell. The idea of having an HM Slave meant that your team was forced to carry a mediocre Pokemon just to progress.

It was shit then, it was shit in GSC, it was shit in Ruby/Sapphire, it was shit in Diamond/Pearl, it was shit in Black/White, and shit in X/Y.

Death to HMs. One of the worst, if not THE worst mechanics in Pokemon, and definitely a contender for a top ten "Terrible mechanics in well-known games" list.

Reason is a combination of game freak planning ahead in the most money grubbin way possible(gotta leave room for lazy remakes/remove features to reintroduce them later as new) and the idea that you might as well make 1 super region instead of two good ones

In RBY there are only 5 HMs
Fly, Surf, and Strength are all good moves, in fact Surf is the best water move in the game.
Cut is passable if you put it on a normal type for STAB. It has lots of PP.
Flash is trash but you can skip it because the Rock Cave is only 2 floors.

In G/S/C there is a move deleter NPC so they are not permanent.
