He is never named, in game or in the manual.

keep in mind, in faxanadu your character changes as you upgrade equipment.

you start out looking like a nerd, but by the endgame you look like a badass knight.

It's good for learning if that's what your after. It's not great for dev speed and getting something done (unlike Python, JavaScript, ruby, etc)

People will meme c++ and stuff but for 2d shit interpreted languages are fine.

JavaScript has the advantage of being easy to share your game with folks. (Unlike asking people to run your sketchy exe or compiling code)
