Games that ain't even that hard
Medusa heads are overrated in difficulty, and the holy Water makes the game a cakewalk, but it still packs a decent enough challenge.

Still only average or a bit above for an NES game
CVIII will push your shit in though
>>3688652
I agree. The only true bullshit difficult part is the hallway before death and the battle against death.
Now 3, especially the US release, is another story.
>>3688652
>"nes" hard
>>3688712
Yeah, that was a pretty random difficulty spike.
Still got through it after a few tries though.
GHOSTS N GOBLINGS

Played it. It felt about the same to me, actually.

Once Yellow Devil's pattern learned is normal difficult
>>3688897
This.
I would even argue Mega Man 4 is harder overall.
>>3688712
what the hell do you even do in that hall

But the NES average equals quite hard, so above average, even just by a little, means a damn hard game.
CV1 is hard, but how hard it is has been blown out of proportion. Like, the hallway before Death isn't that hard. It looks hard, it's daunting for sure, but at that point in the game you should be able to cartwheel around Medusas as easy as breathing. You should also know how to reliably beat Knights by this point. The only real challenge in the hallway is figuring out how much to move forward between attacks. Though I could see how it'd be harder if you never practiced jump attacks.
I always have a good laugh when some people say Mega Man X is hard.
Contra is easier than any game posted ITT so far

>battletoads
>isnt even that hard
go fuck yourself
>>3688652
Pretty much.
Medusa heads are the only real annoyance.
Saw some lets player a year or so back fail terribly at it and so I just brought up the game in a browser I think.
Hadn't played in over a decade.
In general bishops are the most commonly challenging enemy in retro games.
If you can move diagonally than you present at least some difficulty.
>>3688652
Still can't beat Dracula
>>3688652
Yeah Castlevanias not the hardest game on the planet. However I think it's a good introduction to retro difficulty given how many elements that define Castlevania have become tropes. The knockback, clunky controls, items and enemies all blend together perfectly to show a newer player what these kinda old platformers are like.
>>3689197
How hard have you tried?
>>3688897
Yeah. 1 has some tricky sections but isn't that bad.
Now on buster only, absolute hell. Elec man and yellow devil go from fun to bullshit.
>>3688905
4's boss's always seemed to have the most competent AI to me. Yeah you have toad man but when they were idiots and designed him to have a unmissable attack they realized they had to make it stupid.
>>3689119
Death is pretty hard. A homing attack in a game as stiff as the classicvanias is brutal
>>3688709
Truth
Second loop is brutal
>>3689138
t. casual shitter who never beat a hard game
Once you learn to fight by alternating between punches and kicks the game's difficulty becomes average.
Jumping past gaps are still a bitch though
Arcade style games with limited continues and password systems on old consoles are all absolute trash
>>3689409
t. trash
>>3688897
I think a lot of MM1's difficulty comes from strange design quirks that weren't as present in the other games, and once you adjust there's harder games out there.
No e-tanks or upgrades besides the magnet, a few levels demanding you have a weapon fueled to progress, spikes bypassing mercy frames, weird shit like that can throw you off if you started with newer games.

Can someone explain whats so hard about following the damn train? It's such a simple mission.
>>3689228
I tried so hard
and got so far
but in the end
it doesn't even matter

Holy fuck the train was nothing. I remember going the opposite direction ,spawning tanks on the , and waiting for the other racers to come hit them and explode so I could win easier
>>3689772
on the bridge*

Even after looking up a guide specifically to beat yellow devil, I am still too slow or retarded to ever get past him. I don't know why. Never could get further.

Jump the medusa heads and whip on your descend. You can stun lock the armors, but you must NOT miss your timing.
Or you can jump and holy water for a cake walk.
>>3692589
>jump and holy water
They just walk backwards out of it
>>3692596
>>3692596
Not the same jump philosophy but putting that aside because it's unimportant, the difference is enemy placement and expected means to handle an encounter.
>>3692591
Walk foward between the attacks. The whip will stun them enough to kill them and eat their axes away. Just don't stop moving foward while attacking.
>>3688881
You are objectively incorrect. In the final stage of CV3 a single bat literally takes off 1/5th of your life bar. And you can't exploit holy water stunlocks.
All of them.
Git gud, SonyMillennialBabbys.
