It's been quite awhile, lads!
Daggerfall rocks.
The cities are lively and detailed, NPC's are all unique characters with individual personalities.
There are thousands of towns, and you can easily spend hundreds of years exploring them. They all have a wide variety of shops, temples, guilds, and of course, lots of warm inviting homes.
There are thousands of dungeons, and exploring them is a blast. The combat is fluid, the treasures are quirky and mystifying things like gold jewelry, and cosmetics you won't see in any other RPG. Or, occasionally you'll find a map that leads to a secret dungeon that's more exciting and dangerous than the one you were just in. Huzzah!
Oh, and did someone say "procedural generation?
99% of the game's towns and dungeons are lovingly hand-crafted. Don't expect a drab endless landscape of trees and hills, because you won't find it. The only people who like Morrowind and Oblivion are casuals who can't figure out how to install Daggerfall.
If I wanted to comb randomly generated dungeons for loot, I'd play Nethack, although Nethack only has primitive tile-based graphics.
If I wanted to explore gloomy low-res 3D labyrinths, I'd play Doom or Quake, although those games don't have much story.
If I wanted to roleplay and live out an intriguing story, I'd play Fallout, although Fallout doesn't have fun combat.
If I wanted to experience all the positives and none of the negatives of these three games, I'd play Daggerfall.
There exist at least 2 different daggerfall demos.
I recommend to check them for quite creepy content value

what kind of creepy? the screaming skeletons no longer scare me and nothing else scared me at all.

Question: I'm running into some snag. I have a folder with my daggerfall install and dosbox, and running that application starts the program fine. However, if I try to make a shortcut to that run application or copy it to my desktop, it won't run. Why? I'd much prefer to have the icon on my desktop.

Nice bard, anon. What is your character wearing?
Holy shit, lads. How are you supposed to deal with liches?
Reminder that DF source port is almost up

>when you had to use cheat mode because the door where the quest reward is was bugged and wouldn't open no matter what I touched or switched
Sometimes I make a female character, give her terrible stats, strip her naked, take her to a random dungeon, use cheats to warp her to a random room in the dungeon, and try to get out alive. No saving so death is game over. It's a little arousing.

How do I enjoy Daggerfall? I've played for around 10 hours and haven't successfully completed a single guild quest because of random bugs and glitches. I'm trying so hard to enjoy it and like difficult RPGS but this is fucking ridiculous...I go to a dungeon to kill "a werewolf" for fighters guild and I do that. But the quest guy refuses to talk to me now? what the fuck?? And then I spend 1000000000 hrs trying to finish a quest to kill a tiger in someones house but the tiger spawns inside a wall or some dumb shit. I love every other aspect of this game but being unable to finish any fucking quests is driving me insane.

It bugs me that i play DF precisely because is old and my computer can run it. These modern ports adds nothing of value to the gameplay while enhances graphics, which i couldn't care less.

I think one of the goals is to make it easier to mod, which is cool. But other than that and bug fixes, I don't really care. I'm perfectly happy playing on DOSBox.
>>3694013
Have you applied the latest patches? v2.13 is still buggy, but it's not supposed to be *that* buggy.
>>3694634
Easier to mod, and possibly making it VR compatible.
Imagine playing Daggerfall on second generation VR hardwarewithout cumming all over your keyboard while crying tears of joy.
