The OPs are so low effort these days. There's so many good thing the OPs could be used for. For example you could have highlighted to horrid state of the Collab Document (there's still a finished park under the Ongoing Park tab, looking at you WorldMaster) and encouraged people to start new collabs or finish ongoing. Or you could have brought attention to the ongoing contest that seem to have been forgotten. Or you could simply have posted a edition we could talk about.

At least check all links and post two images, we used to have a featured screenshot in the first post and a real life coaster in the second. If you don't want to do it properly, let someone else do it.

Some of the Wacky Worlds scenarios are nice. Time Twister was almost completely shit though. And all of the new rides are shitty reskins of existing ones. New scenery is trash as well, dominated by bad animatronics.
>>
Hey dudes if I'm only interested in playing the RCT1 scenarios, should I buy RCT1 or 2?

I know you can import them to 2, but they aren't completely faithful, right? Also I like how you have to unlock them in the original. What do you guys think?
>>
>>3694610
They're maybe 95% faithful. There's a readme file included that details what I had to change from RCT1. If you're using OpenRCT2, the scenarios are in the same order as in RCT1, and you can select an option to lock scenarios until you complete previous ones.

This game made such an impact on my life. At 14 i decided that i wanted to basically spend my life trying to live out the game by working on rides. So far I'm not doing too bad. I've got a good job with a top tier carnival but life on the road was hard. I had to leave my laptop and my precious rct parks at home. Now its back and better than ever. There was a scenario that I remember was in a pack that I cannot for the life of me find. I remember you start with just a 1x1 spot of land and no money. I scrapped mine, it was going to be the North Pole-themed, but couldn't into Arctic landscaping.

Lately, I've thought about trying to make another scenario themed off the Toyland climate from Transport Tycoon, or recreate Goodsprings from Fallout New Vegas, the latter of which would probably put me way in over my head.

I started on a small winter themed park but it won't be for the contest. With exams, holidays, PC and my usual build speed it's nowhere close to finished.

I had a much harder time relearning to build coasters in Parkitect than in PC. I feel like it's easy to build simple but realistic coasters in PC, it only gets hard when you start to bother with autistic shit like heartlining in combination with custom inversions.

Just came here to tell those who don't know about rct classic for mobile.

It's a very good port, albeit some bugs.
But official rct on the go? Yes please.
>>
Since RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 isn't retro, why not post it in the /v/ or /vg/ boards?
>>
>>3720939
It's a weird comfort we have here. /vr/ct is too slow for /vg/, we'd be bumped off almost immediately. RCT/2 has enough of a vaguely retro enough feel that we're tolerated here by some miracle.
>>
>>3720937
If I had a tablet I'd maybe get it, for a phone it just feel unnecessary. I like that they added some new elements however, something OpenRCT2 have yet to manage.

Damn that is fully sexual.

It doesn't seem like it would be extremely difficult to implement, if it's just applying a filter on parts of the screen around designated light sources. Maybe that's harder than it sounds though. Well, the guy in the video says it's not really a rollercoaster "but the general public won't know the difference." That UI looks horrible.
>>
>>3744067
It doesn't look like it matches the game at all, but what did you expect them to do? The original UI would have been impossible to control on a small touch screen.
>>
>>3744098
They could have just resized the UI a little. Or atleast try to make it kind of pixelated instead of this trash.
>>
>>3744292
Remember that most phones have a much higher screen DPI than the monitor you may be viewing that screenshot on. If you scale that down to a 5 inch diagonal the size of the text and buttons is somewhat reasonable. That also explains the badly upscaled look of the pixel art graphics: if they were scaled 1:1, everything would be impossibly small, so scaling them up linearly (which makes it look ugly on a normal DPI screen) is probably the best solution to maintain the pixel art look on a high DPI smartphone.

With all of that being said I'm not really sure how just making the UI look arbitrarily more "old fashioned" would really be an improvement. I guess you just don't like the style. It does kind of clash with the RCT aesthetic (which is bright colors, a cartoonish look, etc.), but usability is a legitimately important criterion.
>>
>>3743840
It's comfy. However, I think it'd be better with some left turns or twists after the roofed part, only right turns for so long could be a little repetitive.

Not really, as it's trains running on track rather than the "track" and the "train" just being one piece that rotates.

GOG or pirate.
>>
>>3746127
GOG or Steam doesn't really matter, there's no DRM included in the Steam download. So it's up to preference.

For playing on Android, currently OpenRCT2 is nowhere near the RCTC. But since you have a job you can probably afford to buy them both, RCTC for now and then ordinary RCT2 when OpenRCT2 get their mobile version running.

>>
>>3746198
The track on the other ride rotates with the train? I assumed the train was really a train on a circular track, getting propelled around by a rubber tire that builds up its momentum over a series of oscillations (like a viking ship ride).

At 20 seconds you get an excellent view of the "inertia ring" that makes the Super Loop system unique. The train occupies its space and the entire remainder of the tracks length is occupied by a lot of zero cars. Their main job is to provide a constant surface for the four drive tires to run against and it serves for both accelaration and braking

It's an old glitch. The heartline twister coaster is so bad that you can make it's E rating underflow (go below zero) and come out as the maximum.
>>
>>3748231
i knew it was too good to be true, fuck that rollercoaster it is awful. thanks for clearing that up
>>
>>3748231
I thought it happened because the rating is based off of airtime?
>>
>>3748250
I suspect it's an integer underflow because 256*256 is 65536, and the E rating of 655.14 is suspiciously close to that, assuming the ratings are stored as 16 bit integers representing hundredths of a point.

Maybe it is the other way around and that is the highest you can go before the rating rolls over to zero, though.
>>
>>3748258
It's an integer underflow. You can tell because the same coaster in a fixed version has a negative E rating that's exactly equal to the E rating of an unfixed version minus (2^16 -1).

>Maybe it is the other way around and that is the highest you can go before the rating rolls over to zero, though.
Both are true, if you somehow got a coaster with a legit 660 E rating it'd wrap back around to 4.whatever.

Try adding more small feature to your large buildings to break up the big expanses of the same scenery piece.
For example, the "train station" is so large that you should probably add some more decorative structures on top of it.
The small sheds along the green and brown coaster are a good level of detail. The little houses with the double doors on the wild mouse are OK. The structure around the observation tower is somewhat decent too, although the color choices are questionable.

It seems like you're getting there though.

The whole park is likely nonfunctional, Anon. Sometimes the coasters themselves don't even work.
>>
>>3791461
Nonfunctional autism is the worst kind of autism 2bh
>>
>>3791465
This, build functional or get lost.
>>
>>3791465
>>3792318
I see absolutely no problem with non-functional elements as long as they're used well in making a ride or park look more aesthetically pleasing and realistic. You two should probably calm your tits.
>>
>>3792331
My tits are calm and I can appreciate the most extreme kind of NED autism but I'll always be more impressed by a beautiful functional park than a non functional scenery wank.
>>
>>3792345
If non functional scenery can look good, why not use it?

I'm not saying NED stuff is more impressive than an actual park, or that it isn't extreme overkill, but dismissing all non-functional scenery is just dumb. It's not like it can't be used to great effect in an actual park.
>>
>>3792358
Why not integrate it with functional rides and scenery? If you're going all in to recreate real rides with maximum realistic looks, why not just play Planet Coaster, RCT3 or NoLimits2? I just feel like the most impressive stuff in RCT2 is realistic but still functional.
>>
>>3792373
I'm just saying it's a perfectly valid technique in making your parks look pretty and realistic. I mean, isn't that what a lot of us here try to strive for? Considering your mindset, why isn't everyone here playing PC, RCT3, or NL2?

If it looks good, why should I care if it uses non-functional elements? Why would I completely ignore something that can really bring out the beauty in my parks? Using non-conventional means to create scenery and buildings doesn't make the park any less impressive (if it looks good that is).
>>
>>3792384
What I'm hating on is fully nonfunctional parks. Building service buildings and other nonfunctional stuff to enhance your functional park is great. It's not non-functional elements, it's non-functional parks I'm hating on.

I have no idea what to do for the scenery for this ride. It's a bit too cramped for a proper building but I dunno what else I could do to make it look good. Any ideas or suggestions?

>>3792427
You seem to have space to the left of the ride, move the station to the right side, build a straight lift and add a small building to the queue.

I'd have to completely redesign the ride from scratch to accommodate a straight lift. On top of that, a straight lift limits my height quite a bit, and the ride already has pretty pathetic stats as it is. Plus, it was already a pain designing it to fit into that small space and I'd rather not start over if possible. Here's another screenshot of a different angle. There's really not as much space left as you'd think.

I'll try and squeeze in a small queue building though. I dunno if I'll be able to get it to mesh well though considering where the queue is. Maybe if I swap the entrance and exit.

This is how I'd have done it. The dimensions are same but the paths are a bit tricky, I'd probably move the whole thing 1 unit up and have the enterance/exit go over the existing path through a building.

>>3792483
This is a nice building but I just can't stand a split lift.
>>
>>3792494
Nah, my ride is 10x10. Yours seems to be 10x13. Since the 13 side holds the lift hill, this isn't really an option for me unless I massively cut down on the ride which I'd rather not do. I totally get not liking a split lift, but unfortunately it's the only option I see without, again, completely redesigning the ride. Or going outside the boundaries of the ride platform I built. I'm trying to avoid building over paths and past ride platforms as much as possible with this park (though I did have to cheat a little on some of the rollercoasters).

Thanks a ton for the feedback though.
>>
>>3792483
Fix that railing nigga, it's triggering my autism.
>>
>>3792502
Yeah, I went for 10x13 since it looked like you had additional space over the path. If you don't want to build over the path that's obviously fine, at the end of the day it's down to preference anyway.

Heh, good eye. Fixed.
>>3792506
>it looked like you had additional space over the path
I have plans for that space. I'm gonna build buildings and food courts all along the pier to make it more realistic. So I don't really want any rides going over those areas.

I'll post the park once it's finished in like three years when I finally decide to stop.

Why did you use the Arrow track for the first two loops? Wouldn't the B&M or LIM track look more like a Eurofighter?

the thinner rails on the arrow tracks are more accurate and are standard for NE, I'll do something about the LIM track, I needed upward banked pieces for the merge but you can't do that with arrow track. I might make the first three inversions LIM track to match, or I'll make the corkscrew B&M track.

this, and even then, you'd be better off using that steel lattice wall object (with the sorta diamond in the centre) and fences to make thinner supports.

Schwartzkopfs are tough to support without custom scenery, and with CSO it becomes a tedious process.

Pic related is an example from NE of a realistic schwartzkopf looper (though only arrow has ever done interlocking loops irl), you can't really do that without custom scenery unless you use the pole object very sneakily. If you want to pretty up your ride without spending autistic amounts of time, a station, surrounding fence, a proper brake run and perhaps a tunnel or two are all you should really do.

also that station is long af what are you smoking anon, this isn't RCT1. 6 tile length is the absolute most you need except for like 1 or 2 special snowflake cases, if you want multiple trains use block brakes.
>>
>>3794213
Did you make that one?
Or do you know what speed the train has when it reaches the end?

I didn't make this, I just found it on NE, this is 9 years old now. It hits the transfer track brakes at 30mph and gets slowed to 12mph (49 and 19kmh I think), then it gets further slowed down to whatever the minimum speed is by the last brake set
>>
>>3794234
Piss off, retard. Do you get upset when people call them SNES and Genesis instead of "the grey one and the black one", too?
>>
>>3794215

pic related is a more solid example, well supported, more real layout, brake run isn't split in some retarded fashion (brakes are usually long for a more gradual slow down)

>>3794234
>hurr durr everybody is using terms I don't understand therefore they must be enlightened fedora tier autists

You're in a thread for a theme park simulator anon, what the fuck did you expect? like >>3794238 this anon said saying "looping coaster", "corkscrew coaster", "steel twister" etc is pretty much the equivalent of calling your SNES a "Nintendo", Genesis a "SEGA", a 7800 an "Atari" etc etc. IRL companies offer unique products in order to compete with other coaster manufacturers, they have their own unique layouts, ride elements, track types etc that affect the cost, size, smoothness etc of the ride. Labeling rides by their in-game name is stupid, for one, corkscrews are not exclusive to the corkscrew coaster, nor are steel twists exclusive to the steel twister. Secondly, Arrow and Vekoma both use the same track type, as do Mack and Intamin and Gerstlauer. B&M has whored out their track design before to other companies, there's a fuckload of different companies that make woodies, Premier and S&S are really similar so it gets confusing, then you have rides with train/track combinations that aren't possible in vanilla rct like a Maurer Sohne X-Coaster.

If somebody asks "how do I make my giga coaster look realistic", it's too damn broad of a category to explain since the amount of different types of rides using that track style out there is insane. There's Intamin gigas, megas, mega-lites, loopers, vertical lift loopers, LSM, accelerators, Mack mega coasters, Gerstlaeur eurofighters etc etc

nice bait 10/10 would get mad again
>>
>>3794085
>>3794213
Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately I'm limited in scenery objects (it's an official scenario so no custom stuff) so I suppose I'll have to figure something out.

As for the long station, eh. I wanted multiple trains without any need for block brakes. It's gonna be covered up by a building anyways.

>>
>>3794935
that's a huge improvement anon. The buildings are blocky as hell sure, but they add a lot imo. If you want to add more life to it rather than decorating the ride more just put some flat rides, shops, buildings etc along the edge of the path, the ride itself is nicely touched up.

>>3795002
ah, this is an old trick, here's one of the first guides for it (which is somehow still being hosted) http://cp6-rct.tripod.com/id3.html

in openrct, use the "any operating mode" cheat for downward launch and use the tile inspector to lower the track pieces, and you can raise the ground over the hole if you have zero clearances on. Using 8cars was a game of russian roulette, I'm glad it has been made redundant with openrct now.

Your autism is actually quite annoying. Would be less of an issue if there were a language file that uses original names.

There's a big update coming in april that will have a bunch of new content and bug fixes. What's wrong with height markers now? The highest and lowest points of elements have their height marked which is as much info as I need
>>
>>3795698
this is correct, the ride doesn't need the chain lifts to make it to the station, nor does it use them as block brakes. Lots of older woodies had these anti rollbacks, I was trying to simulate that.

>>3795415
you could get annoyed or you could spend a few minutes in wikipedia reading up on it and learn something new (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Roller_coaster_manufacturers). I don't give a fuck if somebody uses the in game name for things, I'm not going to go out of my way and so "No! You can't call it that, that's bad and you should feel bad!", that would be unironic autism, anon, and we can't have that. but if I'm gonna describe something in order to help somebody build realistically or to differentiate between two similar rides I'll use irl company names. The post I'd replied to was calling people out on it in a baity way so I got mad.

>>3795417
E>I is a meme, getting the excitement higher than intensity is impressive and certainly maximizes profits (you can charge an extra 10c for every 1.00 E over I), when you are playing scenarios. Really you just want as high an excitement possible, and a diverse range of intensities and nausea throughout the park so that guests with all sorts of preferences will be able to find a ride they'd pay for, then build up their courage (they do that in game, after riding something that pushes their limit they have larger limits), they'll go ride your more intense rides with a higher rider per minute ratio.

that said my examples were a corkscrew coaster and a woody purposely made to not bank any turns just for that meme. Both of them are naturally intense and hard to get E>I unless you are playing the system and maximising nearby rides, tunnels etc. You could use these fine in a scenario if you wanted, spaghetti made purely for profit will make more money in the end, this just looks nicer.

Current WIP. I've beaten the scenario many times over the years, I'm just beautifying it and trying to imagine what it might look like irl. The building facades are unfinished so shit looks ugly and incomplete from some angles.

>>3798890
It sounds like you're kinda new to rct, I could criticize your rides and scenery, or how the landscape's bare, but anon you'll improve with time anyway so it doesn't really matter. I do have two big tips for you though, firstly, never build behind the park entrance, the guest ai is dumb and will get lost. Make sure not to hook your paths back towards the entrance or have dead ends in that direction etc too.

As for the other tip, you have lots of space! Don't be scared to spread out and use it, it both looks better and helps overcrowding. Utilize more space between your rides, and don't be scared to make rollercoasters with a larger footprint. As it stands you'll probably notice guests will get lost a lot, or won't even make it to the rides at the back of your park before heading home etc etc because everything it shoved in their face as soon as they walk in. 4 coasters right near the entrance is crazy.

I think you're likely to get burned out if you try to fill a whole park up with that much density, and it'll overall be hard to maintain aesthetically and logistically

From a guest ai perspective, you really need to either flatten the smaller hill with snow or build path around the other side of it too. If you hook that current pathway around the hill and have things on the right side of the map, guests will get lost without a loop to follow back.

It's a good start anon, and it looks like you're really having fun! Good luck with the park :)
>>
>>3798940
hey thanks!! guess I should have mentioned this is a WIP. I was saving the rest of the landscape for some bigger coasters, I've got a pretty solid B&M Dive that I've been working on that'll fit great in there.
